Byte Back, Inc. A Cost-Effective Pipeline to 21st Century Jobs in Growth Industries for Disenfranchised Residents of the Washington DC region

Location

Washington DC
United States

Byte Back works to improve economic opportunity for low-income, underemployed and unemployed residents of the Washington DC area by providing computer training, certification classes and employment readiness skills. It is Byte Back’s goal to assist residents in obtaining employment that pays a living wage with opportunities for advancement. Byte Back utilizes combination of training, education, internships, mentoring, partnerships with employers, and by staying in tune with the growth areas within the regional job market.

Reason:

While the economic downturn has not hit the Metropolitan Washington region as hard as some other areas of our country, it hit many in the District very hard. Although the unemployment rate in Ward Three remained at about 3% over the past couple years, it has hovered at close to ten times that rate in Ward Eight. There are neighborhoods of Washington DC that are extremely poor and the educational system is failing residents. Thousands of Washingtonians are simply not prepared to secure employment in the 21st century. If all communities of Washington DC are to flourish and thrive, innovative training and educational programs are needed. Byte Back attacks this problem head on by providing computer training that leads to gainful employment.
