Wow, this entry sounds like a great work already in progress. Having an educational and recreational center will surely expand this organization's mission and reach.

How exciting that kids here in Ghana are getting the opportunity to learn more than just what they get in the classroom.

It seems that other organizations believe in this organization from the support already given.

I like the fact that this center will be providing for the kids as well as for the community. People living in the community will see the great work being done and I'm sure many will take interest and want to be a part of it too.

God Bless!

I currently live and volunteer in Ghana and am especially interested in issues concerning education. I want to commend you and this great idea. There are so many struggles concerning children trying to get an education in Ghana: lack of supplies and teachers, high school fees, and the task of learning in what is not their first language.

This program gives children the resources, a chance to become more familiar with the English language at a young age, which is vital in Ghana, and an opportunity to become creative thinkers. This is so necessary and could really change future generations if done throughout the country.

Well done! I commend you and wish you good luck!

I am a Ghanaian, and as a child I had to carry oranges and other food on my head after school each day in order to pay for my school fees. I didn't get to do sports or any other activities after school. I hope that no one else has to live like that and that every child can have the opportunity to go to activities like this in order to develop their skills and make a better future for themselves and their family.

I wish more opportunities like this were available to Ghanaians, and I wish you the best of luck.

Sincerely,

Oti Boateng

Children of the Light provides children with a holistic and empowering education. Through a variety of activities and unique teaching style, students cannot help but grow emotionally, academically, physically, and spiritually. This project brings hope to the lives of countless children who would otherwise not have a chance for a quality education. A Recreational Development Center will increase the impact of Children of the Light exponentially. The children who are given the opportunity for quality education will in turn become leaders and "change-makers" in Ghana. The more children that can be reached through this project, the better off the nation of Ghana and our world will be. I believe in this project because I have seen the positive results with my own eyes.

It is great that Children of the Light is meeting the needs of Ghanaian children!

I like this quote because I agree the root of other serious problems IS lack of education.

"Children of the Light addresses the grave problem of inadequate education in the lives of Ghanaian children. This is the root of other serious problems such as poverty, crumbling family structures, low self-esteem, and neglect. For various reasons, students in the Ghanaian schools slip through the cracks without fully developing their academic skills. "

Good for them to be reaching out to the kids there!!

I am really encouraged by the work Children of the Light has done and plans to continue doing with providing education for children in Ghana who really need it.  Working with what they have, they have been able to touch the lives of more Ghanaian children than one would think was possible.  I have seen firsthand the work they do and was literally awe-struck at the quality of care and love invested into the kids in the program...and how much the children enjoyed their education from Children of the Light.  A recreational development center would allow them to do so much more too.  I hope they are able to continue the good work they have been doing.

The children of Kitase, and surrounding areas are growing more in confidence with their reading and writing skills.  With education they will be employable.   I have seen their mothers working on the roadside selling fruit amd produce to make a few cedes to exist, their children I am sure will have a different life.

Go Children of the Light you are doing a mighty job.

This awesome NGO is what I find so heart wrenching about living in Ghana. It struggles along on the faith that one small, New Zealand woman, whose heart is in Africa can make a difference in Ghana. The small, yet growing, outreach to the children of Kitase, is changing the lives of the Kids it welcomes at the gate 3 days a week after school. It is open to all children, rich and poor, all they have to do is believe in the Lord, want to learn to read, and better themselves in any small way.

I am humbled by the task than this woman, with the help of the Lord is accomplishing...She needs help, so to any one out there who can help.....Please do so, visit the webb site,

Bless you all

This NGO is exactly what Ghana needs. It is amazing to see these children blossom. Children who would have little chance to succeed in live without the help of Jeanette and her friends.

Most of these children can now read and write due to the drive of Jeanette Opoku.   Five years ago on a visit from New Zealand my wife and I witnessed "Children of the Light" in action.   This is not a dream.   The kids are becoming Citizens of the Light.

What a great asset this would be to the area.   This is what Ghana needs a place where the kids can go after school to polish up their reading, writing, and maths skills.   The interaction with each other with dancing and music would be a much needed gift.

Sat, 08/01/2009 - 06:06

This centre is run by Jeanette Opoku who had an idea, which has manifested, into the Educational Development Centre.

The sincere passion to work with the children in Ghana has shown through education- wisdom, knowledge & understanding there is a positive strength that is a very valuable assest to these children. These children have been given great tools to stand strong. With joy & confidence. The children involved in the Educational Development Centre, have won before even any race had begun.

The Educational Development Centre has strong aims to improve and broaden the skills of the children in its care. The committment of those involved is to be applauded. Well done.
