Innovation
What makes your idea unique?
The Nucleo Familiar (Nuclear Family) was born with NACPC. Our vision to achieve the ideal of the biopsychosocial model of access to health and education, required us to plan a project which valued the contexts of development for a child as much as the biological aspects and tasks.
The difference of our solution is to act directly in raising public awarness about the individual's role as a multiplier of knowledge and information, education and health, cooperativity and collectivity, therefore multipliers agents in quality of life. Consider in the same level of importance of health care and education of children and adolescents with disabilities, and the attention given to his family is a key factor to cause positive changes in the environmental context, which will influence the global development process of these boys and girls.
Through a systematic program that involves several approaches for the education of youth and adults, psycho-physical experiences, training workshops, physical activity and psychotherapy, the Nucleo Familiar (Nuclear Family) NACPC, with its "umbrella project" AFAGAR, seeks to provide an environment conducive to personal enhancement, self-awareness, improved quality of life, where families are able to share experience and to exercise solidarity, being a participant in the global development process of their children and young people and multipliers of individual transformations and / or community where they live.

This Entry is about (Issues)
What impact have you had?
The NACPC serves about 400 children and families in need of the capital, metropolitan cities and the interior of Bahia State, including the semi-arid region. The whole focus of our work is centered on the family. The project serves directly hundreds of families, describing them as peer in health education, inclusion.
Problem
It is normal that the arrival of a child with a disability changes the context and dynamics of the family, triggering a series of intense feelings of doubt, guilt, rejection, fear, denial, despair, sadness, anger, rebellion and, above all, uncertainty about future not only of the child, but also for all family members.
The deconstruction of a pre-established mental model and the reformulation of a series of concepts and new family roles will be needed to face a new scenario: the loss of his dreamed son an the acceptance of the handicapped child. It becomes necessary a new family structure, to fit a desable child and to fullfill his/hers basic needs and their relationship with the social environment in a holistic and coordinated manner.
The AFAGAR aims to raise family awareness about new concepts against disability and the potential for real participation of children and their families in society.
Actions
Through a systematic program that involves several approaches for the education of youth and adults, psycho-physical experiences, training workshops, physical activity and psychotherapy, the Nucleo Familiar (Nuclear Family) NACPC, with its "umbrella project" AFAGAR, seeks to provide an environment conducive to personal enhancement, self-awareness, improved quality of life, where families are able to share experience and to exercise solidarity.
Results
More informed and oriented families on the potential of people with disabilities, their rights and their biopsychosocial development process;
Families more strengthened and more prepared to pursue their talents and participation in society;
Qualified families in productive activities and participative socio-economic society;
Happier children more involved in his/hers family context
The development of skills (cognitive and social) to prepare the individual for a new citizenship and to be an effective member of a globalized and self-sustaining culture.
What will it take for your project to be successful over the next three years? Please address each year separately, if possible.

This date is concomitant with the creation of its support columns for the care of children and adolescents: Project AFAGAR / Nucleo Familiar (Nuclear Famuly).
Enhance the development of indicators to make the process of monitoring and evaluation of results more efficient. Continue to strengthen the organizational culture and institutional mission with all the employees working in the Project AFAGAR actions and its direct beneficiaries.
For the second year, implement an independent location and encourage the creation of an association of parents / mothers / multiplier caretakers envolved in the fight for the rights of children and youth with cerebral palsy and its actual inclusion in society, and leverage the independent participation of mothers / parents / caretakers at productive events such as craft fairs and educational seminars, produced by their own parents.

The Story
What was the defining moment that led you to this innovation?
Believing in a dream. Relying on the destination. Believing that each person has a mission. Believing that the work of a man he must survive and serve others. Overcome your limits, extrapolating his own ego, their own desires and vanities and expose yourself to open chest, nonjudgmental, accepting with humility the designs for each. The creation of the Núcleo de Atendimento à Criança com Paralisia Cerebral (Center for Assistance to Children with Cerebral Palsy) included all those feelings, all those involved who contributed in building its milestone.
The creation of NACPC and one of the most important bases of its mission, the Núcleo
Familiar (Nuclear Family) was first and foremost a choice, a challenge to grow and build a desire to contribute and change. Is not necessary to hear, understand and accept that it just seems to be different, so judged and so misunderstood, yet so similar in feelings, dreams, expectations. Therefore the project AFAGAR/ Núcleo Familiar (Nuclear Family) born as a strand of work NACPC. First of all we wish to make NACPC a place of hospitality and warmth, a place where the dreams of children, adolescents and youth can be dreamed together, the challenges of getting there can be shared, the difficulties can be understood and that these paths can be made less arduous by being pinched together.
This was the defining moment that brought a corporate identity with a focus on family care of children with cerebral palsy, as vital strategy to contribute to the biopsychosocial development of boys and girls and become realities.
Tell us about the social innovator behind this idea.
Pedro Guimaraes was born in Salvador, Bahia, in 1964. At 03 years old he moved to the city of Rio de Janeiro remained until his 13 years of age. During this period, experienced the early exit of his father, leaving the responsibility of the family only with his mother, which was overloaded of work to survive and take care of 04 children. This meant that Pedro learned early in life to solve their own problems, developing an unusual sense of practicality, the courage to confront their own fears, the development of resilience and an unquestioning faith.
Back to Salvador in 1977, continued his studies thanks to the struggles of his mother. In 1982, he entered the School of Medicine, at Bahia Foundation for Medicine and Public Health, in Salvador. Graduated in 1989. As a student he was distinguished by way of contributing to decisions that made history at the University, the idealization and implementation of the Center for Surgery and Experimental Research.
In 1997, defended his Master's thesis at Federal University of São Paulo. In 1999, completed a Doctorate in Medicine, also at UNIFESP approved with note 10 and quoted with praise.
During this period in São Paulo he was called to assist a child who would change the path of his life. It was a child with cerebral palsy who had a testicular tumor and lung metastasis. He had never seen so far no patient with cerebral palsy. So, the academic and social idealism that surrounded his mind struck at the heart deepened his knowledge in the world of children with cerebral palsy. There might experience a difficult routine that reality until then fairly new to the young doctor.
He returned to Salvador and became a professor in the college where he had graduated and as in such position he always associated the technical and scinetific subjects with an humanitarian vision about the care of the human being. While that encouraged scientific research, involving students in fieltrip visits to communities to plan and develop social actions, contributing to the formation of the critical view of social reality in which future doctors would act and self-analysis on the role of each one of those students to the society.
Until 2002 he remained teaching in private medical school, when he was approved in the Public Tender for Adjunct Professor of Federal University of Bahia, where he continues to this day his contribution as an educator and humanitarian doctor.
In 2001 he founded the Núcleo de Atendimento à Criança com Paralisia Cerebral, institution presided by him until today.
