You are Reslient.Strong.Hopeful.Caring.Brave.Thoughtful.Vulnerable.Changed.Tell us your story. This was the "call for submissions" for the 2010 Andre Sobel Award. 225 teens across the US wrote on the topic:"What I've Been Meaning to Tell You: My experience facing illness and how it changed me." The journey of life-threatening illness is a paradox: profound shifts occur in our emotional, physical and spritual priorities, even as the need for connection with family and peers is consistent. Teens tell their stories of change so others may learn.

Reason:
I nominate the Andre Sobel Award because it is as pure as a project can be that wishes to empower patients to be part of healthcare solutions. This project solicits the voices of teen survivors by prompting them to share their journeys with illness. The Award requires that they reflect and give voice to their most deeply felt -- and often unspoken -- feelings about what it really means to be seriously ill and how it has changed them and their relationships. Most important, the submissions talk frankly about how a child most wants to be treated, loved and respected during their illness. On October 4th, 2010 all winning essays will be posted at: www.andreiveroflife.org. Please read them and allow the teens to speak for themselves. Learn!
