1. Online Community Mobilizer

The Online Community Mobilizer will help invigorate Changemakers’ online community building strategy.  The role includes the following responsibilities:

  • Highly adept at organizing and producing content/information in formats that enhance online communication
  • Great writer
  • Experience and excitement for testing and implementing web 2.0 tools
  • Deeply active in managing social networks (on and offline)
  • Experience with software for creating audio and video content
  • Demonstrated eye for graphic design and photography that will invigorate Changemakers brand
  • Great relationship builder – enjoy connecting and accelerating the work of social innovators around the world

We are recruiting four community mobilizer positions. One will require the highest level of fluency in both English and French (written and verbal skills). The second will require highest level of fluency in both English and Spanish. The remaining two Community Moblizers additional language skill will not be a requirement but recognized as an asset.

2. Changemakers Project Manager

The role of the Project Manager is to plan and run online competitions that have social impact. Working collaboratively with technology, community engagement and regional teams around the globe, the Project Manager ensures that the competition runs smoothly, satisfies the sponsor needs, meets all deadlines and is completed within budget.

The role includes the following responsibilities :

  • Manage the planning, launch and execution of Changemakers collaborative competitions
  • Facilitate communication across teams, ensure completion of deliverables and collaborate with staff and partners at various levels
  • Build relationships with competition sponsors (current sponsors include Nike, National Geographic, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, ExxonMobil, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation)
  • Interact with competition entrants, judges, participants and other members of the Changemakers community
  • Quickly learn and demonstrate content knowledge about multiple topics and evaluate social innovations
  • Innovate on existing processes and help design, prototype and pilot new products
  • Additional responsibilities include:

  • Support the Project Management team and overall Changemakers operations—including recruiting, sales and development and website support.

3. Director, Project Management Team

Recognizing that our impact depends in part on the successful execution of our projects, the Director of Project Management plays a key role in ensuring that the project management team plans for and completes Changemakers range of activities in a way that achieves maximum social impact.  In addition to being a part of the overall Changemakers leadership team, the Director manages a team of 4 project managers who plan and produce online competitions, knowledge products and other client deliverables.  Collectively, the Project Management team ensures that the Changemakers projects run smoothly, satisfy sponsor needs, meet all deadlines and are completed within budget.  In addition, the Director has a significant role in the development of new products for Changemakers online community and clients.  This includes working with and/or leading a cross functional team to identify unmet market needs and design new products for Changemakers to meet that need.   

Responsibilities:

  • Set and execute on objectives  for the Project Management Team that align with overall Changemakers targets and vision
    (Includes establishing goals and priorities, setting standards and success metrics and evaluating team and individual performance accordingly)
  • Oversee project management for the Changemakers team
    (Includes creating new processes and/or reinforcing existing processes to ensure that teams produce high quality projects that achieve social impact and satisfy client expectations)
  • Manage team of project managers
    (Includes providing coaching and feedback, guiding individual and team professional development and playing a key role in hiring and staffing)
  • Participate in Changemakers leadership team; liaison with the Executive Director and Directors of other teams
    (Includes facilitating communication across teams, helping the leadership team set strategic direction, providing analysis and insight to leadership team on key metrics to ensure completion of deliverables)
  • Be a champion of innovation and help facilitate team-wide new product development processes to promote thoughtful growth and achieve greater impact
  • Support Executive Director in overall strategic planning, impact assessment and budgeting
  • Communicate with competition entrants, judges, participants and other members of the Changemakers community as needed
  • Quickly learn and demonstrate content knowledge about multiple topics and evaluate entries submitted by social innovators around the globe
  • Support overall Changemakers operations—including recruiting, sales and development and website support.

Qualifications:

We are looking for a smart, energetic Changemakers Director who:

  • Is committed to social change
  • Has a proven entrepreneurial track record
  • Has exceptional leadership skills and has managed and/or supervised staff
  • Has technology, project management, social entrepreneurship or start-up experience
  • Has 7+ years of experience
  • Has strong communication and facilitation skills and enjoys working with diverse groups of people from non-profits, foundations and businesses
  • Is comfortable working in small teams and is able to lead a group of entrepreneurs while maintaining a deliverable focused environment
  • Can balance between creativity and implementation of critical tasks – in a dynamic start-up environment
  • Asks smart questions, moves fast under deadlines, always has a to-do list and gets a kick out of solving problems
  • Cares about being a part of a (digital) community
  • Has a sense of humor.  Seriously.

This position will be based in Ashoka’s Global Office in Arlington, VA (Washington, DC)

4. Knowledge Director

Do you love big ideas, solving puzzles & social change? If so, Changemakers is hiring a Knowledge Director to lead our existing efforts in framing the topic statements and mapping social innovation for our competitions. The director will also lead the Changemakers team to design a series of new and innovative knowledge based products and services for social investors and innovators. The role will require working with the entire team to leverage our existing data and efforts while also building a core knowledge team of full time staff and contractors from around the world. We are looking for a candidate who isn't afraid to aggregate a large amount of information into a few powerful insights that will help advance the way the world is solving social problems.

Skills:

  • Research, analysis and direct management experience
  • Background in human centered design, anthropology or journalism a plus
  • A passion for and experience in solving social problems
  • Ability to conceptualize and identify patterns from raw data
  • History with user generate data collection and online knowledge distribution
  • Track record launching new ideas and programs

5. Outreach Marketing Coordinator - Short Term Contract

Ashoka's Changemakers is looking for an Outreach Marketing Coordinator to work remotely.

The Role:
 

This role is part community relationship manager, part customer service rep, and part advisor for Ashoka's Changemakers upcoming online competition. We run open source competitions online to connect those doing good work on the ground with their peers, to investors and to thought leaders. For the upcoming competition, we will be seeking local ideas and innovations that inspire community action from 7 US based cities. The goal of the Outreach Coordinator is to conduct outreach to various entities (potential entrants, existing entrants, partners, etc.) with the goal of engaging them with the opportunities on Changemakers.com. The role will be charged with initiating communication and spreading the word about the opportunity, responding to inbound questions about Changemakers and helping organizations figure out how best to use Changemakers, brainstorming creative solutions to outreach challenges and solving any problems the entrants and potential entrants may have.

Responsibilities:

  • Build a contact list of potential entrants.
  • Provide support to and build strong communications with potential entrants.
  • Implement partner programs and processes, including managing database and tracking effectiveness of resulting partner campaigns.
  • Opportunity to attend community events, meetings, etc., to spread the word about Changemakers.
  • Coordinating local marketing efforts (newspapers ads, community flyers, etc.) in a 7 city strategy
  • Build relationships with potential promoters who will assist in sharing competition news to their networks, and others who wish to engage with the Changemakers online community

6. Operations Associate:

The Operations Manager is responsible for providing financial, administrative and clerical services in order to ensure effective, efficient and accurate financial and administrative operations. We are seeking an individual committed to social change who is very detail oriented and able to be well organized in a fast moving organization. The Operations Manager will report to the Director of Operations and will:

  • Perform the day to day processing of financial transactions to ensure that finances are maintained in an effective, up to date and accurate manner
  • Receive and verify invoices and requisitions for goods and services
  • Verify that transactions comply with financial policies and procedures
  • Prepare, verify, and process invoices and coding payment documents
  • Prepare batches of invoices for data entry
  • Data enter invoices for payment
  • Maintain the general ledger
  • This position is based in our Arlington, VA office
