(18 palabras)

Children become responsible for providing oral health at their schools

Children are trained to act as scholar promoters on oral health. In this manner, it gives importance and adequate acknowledgements to the work children are able to perform, something that many times is disregarded. At the same time it transfers the responsibility on oral health on to the child so that he/she grows with said interest and is able to transform and keep his/her physical wellbeing. In addition, within this process the direction of the information on health prevention mechanism is reversed because children take the message to the adults, thus achieving very effective results.

We have partnerships with other social organization that do not work on oral health and we have strengthened them on the subject. Likewise, with corporate entities, which have supported us not only by means of donations. In fact, one of them is a very important oral care products trademark with which we have established a very interesting synergy and in a very near future will enable us to become a more self-sustainable organization through the proposed alternatives aimed at generating resources. In addition, we have celebrated agreements with two Universities for ten years now by means of which almost 500 students from the faculty of dentistry and education have completed their internships at the foundation.

Provee una oración describiendo tu impacto o impacto deseado. (18 palabras)

Children population with knowledge on how to prevent oral diseases.

Describe tu impacto/ logros. (150 palabras)

- Over 55.000 Venezuelan children and young people have improved their oral health condition.
- Over 55.000 Venezuelan children and young people have received preventive dentistry treatments.
- Approximately 120.000 people have been benefited indirectly from the information received on oral diseases prevention (children’s relatives).
- 180 preschool and basic educational centers received information on the subject and preventive treatments were applied.
- 700 Venezuelan children trained as oral health promoters; who are aware, manage and carry out educational and preventive dentistry programs in their own education centers.
- 600 Venezuelan people who have planned and carried out activities as scholar promoters on oral health, providing the scholar population with education on tooth brushing techniques, oral hygiene and oral diseases prevention.
- Over 500 Dentistry students became aware of social work that will enable them to have another point of view as health professionals

(40 palabras)

No. However, we are influencing on the manner communities understand the health disease problem and the way they approach the subject, so that they take the initiative in solving their needs and in that moment they will change public policies by their own requirements.

¿A cuántas personas llegas o planeas llegar? ¿Quién se beneficia con tu innovación exactamente? (40 palabras)

At present, on an annual basis, we reach 20.000 low-income resources boy and girls approximately. Exactly, they benefit from the scholar innovation with ages ranging between 3 and 12 years old.

Exchange the oral health assistance based on curative attention by assistance based on the promotion of health with its two pillars: education and prevention. The intention is to show that things can be done in a different manner; that an increased impact can be achieved through change, and in this regard, the strategy is to make known the satisfactory results we are achieving with out project.

First, children integrate into the task of taking care of their health in a natural, spontaneous and very dynamic manner. They managed to take the message to adults and they became much closer to health professionals since they have lost their fear of dentists. In addition, we produced a change in dentists who have understood that their profession has a significant social element and that part of their mission is to teach, accompany and help people to overcome their difficulties.
Therefore, we learn that a change is possible because children and dentist acted in response and the project has grown thanks to that.

(120 palabras)

By means of private companies’ donations. Similarly, by designing projects aimed at obtaining resources from Universities and the communities as well as from private companies that according to the law contributions have to be addressed to innovation projects, in this case of social innovation. On the other hand, we are designing strategies to set up events such as Dentistry Congresses, sponsored by an oral care products’ company and thus obtain the financial benefit resulting from registration fees to said events. As the mentioned company is interested in the above, t can be maintained over time, thus making the project become more and more self sustainable.

(60 palabras)

The decrease in companies’ contributions in support of social causes is a huge barrier. We are identifying those companies that consider the contributions granted not as a donation but as an investment and why not as an opportunity that will somehow be beneficial for them too.

(60 palabras)

By making the maximum number of scholar communities aware to include them in an active and participative manner within the work we are carrying out. This year our intention is to reach 4 states in addition to the 5 states we are already working at, integrating an increased number of dentist to the project. Likewise, we have started thinking about foreign countries.

(200 palabras)

The fact of finding children with dull smiles, children without happiness, with pain, children who were not able to dream about a promising future, children full of complexes who could not eat in an appropriate manner, all in all, children with oral diseases.
Aside from producing a significant concern, it gave me strength to understand that my mission as a dentist was to be a health promoter. I assumed that role with determination, belief and above all with passion; I started to train myself on the subject in a practical manner by developing and carrying out projects based on oral education and prevention.
It was hard at the beginning because I had to convince the communities that this would work and that with this work we were going to be able to improve children’s oral health as well as we would be able to achieve their change of attitude towards the concept of wellbeing. Likewise, I had to deal with my colleagues, politicians and executives. I had to convince my own students from University that this work was important to guarantee our children’s right to health and change. At present, I am satisfied because I achieved part of what I had proposed.

I was born in Caracas. My parents were Italian and I was educated within honesty, solidarity and love-for-work values. I attended the same school throughout all my childhood and studied dentistry within my aim to help other people. In 1989, I graduated at UCV and since then, I became a professor at said University. I am founder and president of Boca Sana (Healthy Mouth) Foundation.
