What makes your idea unique?
One stop Agro-centre is a community diversify centre which link Agriculture, People and Development. The centre will stock farm inputs and set a community appropriate farmers group technology demonstration cluster. This technology will promote enterprises mixed production and joint marketing thus attaining marketing economies of scale. This enterprise mixed farming system is based on the principle of recycling nutrients to maximize production at the lowest input cost.
The activities of one stop Agro-centre link community to economic empowerment through training, income generation, food security, gender equality which then translates into socio-economic development.
The individual members will be carrying out more than one enterprise on their own farm while adopting technologies from the Technology Demonstration centre based cluster centers.
Recycling resources from Farm residues, waste from crops be used for feeding animals and waste from animals be for bio-gas farm manufacture, used and for soil fertility management.
This approach will take into account the indigenous knowledge, stimulate the used of local available resources to create empowerment for sustainable development.
The project will promote farmers to farmer extension approach to enhance the development of commercial farmers in the district.
For this to achieve, the block farming system will be used and reinforced by rapid rural participatory appraisal to find out other gender silent issues which could hinders the project.
Do you have a patent for this idea?
Yes
This Entry is about (Issues)
Tell us about the social impact of your innovation. Please include both numbers and stories as evidence of this impact
The project area is Luweero district which is largely a rural area with few urban centers. The farm size is on average 4 acres per household with majority farming activities small holders’ crops and livestock.
The district is endowed with wetland, flat land with well drainage system for Horticulture crops, Coffee, livestock, fish and bee farming. This project will utilize such land without degrading and promote sustainable Agriculture to create sustainable development in the areas. By increasing food production and household income all these enterprises are not new in the areas and have no related taboos to the communities.
The project will bring together community with a possibility of forming association hence creation of fora for strengthening themselves, expression of their interest and aspiration involvement in socio-economic development.
The viability of this project is very high among community because the enterprises are of high value price, eaten by majority and others are used as raw materials for making products of high values.
Problem: Describe the primary problem(s) that your innovation is addressing
The high food crisis, poor house hold income levels, domestic violence, use of poor traditional inputs, lack of production knowledge and skills, and the poor selection of unprofitable enterprises in production among rural communities, has increased the agricultural problems to the level of opportunities offered. For Luweero the situation is constrained by
(a) Soil fertility decline
(b) Social economic constraints (high cost of inputs, crop management, computation for labor, marketing difficulties)
(c) Pests and disease and (d) Low genetic diversity as evidenced by the fact that all cultivars react to pests and diseases.
Woman vulnerability in Luweero is also associated with lack of economic livelihood empowerment. The majority of women don’t own natural resources, high dependence on man for basic needs, and lack of funds or donor support to rural women project activities. The bad culture in the society is also contributing to rural women poverty.
Actions: Describe the steps that you are taking to make your innovation a success. What might prevent that success?
Innovative approaches and methods will be used to transfer the technology.
The project will provide skills and knowledge, inputs to initial selected groups and individual farmers. This approach will take into account the indigenous knowledge and capacity building for development of enterprise mixed. The project will work with farmer groups with a total numbers of 150 farmers; each group will have 15 members and will select 5 members from each group called lead community group facilitators. These one will be intensively trained and they will be having responsibility of training group members. This approach will take into account indigenous knowledge, technology adoption; stimulate the use of local available resources to create sustainable development.
The project will promote farmer to farmer extension approach to enhance the development of commercial farm enterprise mixed in the district.
For this to achieve, a block farming system will be used and re-enforced by rapid rural appraisal to find out other gender silent issues which could hinder the project.
Results: Describe the expected results of these actions over the next three years. Please address each year separately, if possible

We would like to learn more about how your initiative is financially supported. Please explain your business plan/revenue model
As earlier on stated,we are still at an idea stage and we are looking for financial support to kick start this innovation, having said that, below is our plan for project financial sustaincy. The establishment of Technology Demonstration Centre cluster to conduct citrus fruit grafting, coffee nursery, Banana multiplication, fish fry production, local poultry improvement and providing training to community will provide mechanism for generating finance and promotion of enterprises on sustainable basis. The individual membership fees and animal subscription towards the project. The centre will be selling planting materials, fish fry, and improved local poultry. All these enterprises are rated as food and have high demand within local and outside market.
The members will form (SAO) share an opportunity saving and credit scheme for sustainability of the project.
What was the defining moment that led you to this innovation?
The poor state the women are living in compared to the impact they have to the society, community and the country atlarge prompted this innovation.Women in africa, Uganda in general and Luweero in particular work harder and have a better will to work than the Men.That means that, they only need to be directed if you want to have an impact on the community. They are the mothers, some are the family bread winners etc.
Tell us about the person—the social innovator—behind this idea.
Kigobe Herbert is a graduate of Economics from Makerere University Kampala Uganda, aged 33yrs.I have a big passion for agriculture/farming it being a fact that i grew up in a farming family.Am a problem solver.I see the work force in women, their potential and their impact on the community for example and the huge chuncks of land lying idle and ask my self that can't we combine these factors and we solve a puzzle?
How did you first hear about Changemakers?

Does your project address any of the following barriers to women’s technology access and use?
Women’s time poverty, Social norms, Economic or institutional constraints, Women’s lack of involvement in the technology development process.
If you checked any of the boxes above, please explain how.
The social norms in the country side where majority of people live and work is that women belong to the kicten, so they do not invlove in commercial matters of a family or the community. It is the men who are supposed to be the bread winners of the homes so women work and even harder than the men and end up earning less or nothing at all.The project will bring together community with a possibility of forming association hence creation of fora for strengthening themselves, expression of their interest and aspiration involvement in socio-economic development.
The project will expose rural woman to participatory planning process for managing profitable enterprises. The enterprise mixed will translate into increased production per unit area of land and diversification of farm products to enhance income and social development.
Does your project involve women in one or more of the following stages of the technology lifecycle? Identification of the problem the technology will solve:
Technology design, Market research, Technology introduction, Technology training, Technology supply and distribution, Creation and maintenance of market linkages for women's economic outputs.
If you checked any of the boxes above, please explain how you will ensure women’s involvement in each relevant phase of the technology lifecycle.
