Hi Rachel,

Great to hear how you are using film and media to make impact! Could you elaborate a little bit more on exact strategies you are using to help others to act? What are some examples?

Good luck!

Hi Romina! Thank you for the encouragement. We are currently pulling together our Spring 2009 Nationwide Tour. At each venue there will be a screening of the film, followed by a Q&A with various members from the SOLD crew. The organization, which was started along side of the film, has been narrowed down to 3 avenues in which we respond, and within each avenue is a specific way to get involved. For instance, sponsoring a child through our scholarship program assists in prevention. Meeting immediate needs, such as bags of rice, for our partner organizations in Thailand. In June 2009 we are offering an exposure trip to Thailand, in which we will be coming alongside of our local partners to host an educational seminar on trafficking in the villages. Our hope with the trip is to expose the complexity of the situation, and highlight the fact that it is most often rooted in poverty. Over all, I believe that stories are powerful and that people are moved when they see the needs of humanity, especially in children. Our film highlights the stories of these children from their perspective... it's not a narrative, it's not manipulated, it's their stories... and the organization gives viewers an immediate way in which to respond directly to these children.

I hope this helps to answer your question... and please feel free to keep shooting them my way!

With hope,

Rachel

Hello Rachel,

Earlier this year Changemakers hosted a competition with Humanity United called "Ending Modern Day Slavery." I think this competition would be a great place for you to look for potential partners, supporters and for ideas. There were several entries in this competition addressing child prostitution. Check it out! Here is the link: http://changemakers.net/node/6264/

Best of luck to you!

Child Prostitution

by Ab Ariyaratne | Sep 13, 2008

Child prostitution has emerged through poverty. When people are poor they find ways and means for sustenance.Prostitution is a sexual act.A child does not do it for pleasure. It is done as there is no other alternative.By films the reality of the childrens world could be shown,it could depicts the circumstances under which it happens.
