How Jonathan is a changemaker:

Unwilling to accept the status quo in the area of my disability, I've tried to change things not just for amputees, but for all people who suffer from orphan diseases. By focusing effort and information as much as possible, we can change the way innovation happens in underserved markets.

I want prosthetic arms to be more widely used by arm amputees, and for arm designs to advance beyond those that we've used since World War II to catch up with the Discovery Channel and Star Wars.

Jonathan's bio

I'm a graduate student working on advanced prosthetic arm control and design at Duke University. In 2006, after losing my arm as a Marine in Iraq, I founded the Open Prosthetics Project/Shared Design Alliance. With almost no funding and a dedicated group of volunteers, we have tried to change the way prosthetic arms are designed.
