With additional and increasing challenges of MDR TB, there is now opportunity to develop new expertise based on compassion for individual which has marked MDR TB services for in the past.It is important to seize opportunity and adopt new innovative approaches which benefit those in need to enhance their MDR TB patient’s dignity.
TB is one of the older diseases of mankind and has a unique social dimension. For many of the men and women affected by TB, simply overcoming infection is not sufficient allow a straightforward return to the previous life style. Due to lack of disease awareness and treatment facilities, most of prospective patients turn up to Government health facilities for TB Treatment after spending lot of time and monies in shopping private health facilities.
By the time the patient approaches to Government health facilities, he/she would have spent lot of time and monies towards the TB treatment. Opportunities are to be developed to help them to find productive employment, to contribute to the economy of their family to live with dignity as useful and self supporting members of community. Additional Nutritional Support and Social and Economic Rehabilitation to MDR TB (ANSWER MDR TB) project interventions will address two major requirements identified during working closely with MDR-TB patients are 1) Additional Nutritional Support to the MDR TB Cases and 2)Holistic Development of the patient with improvement in socio- economic situation.
