Since 2003 FOH has been giving the needy families and those badly affected by HIV/Aids a reason to smile during Christmas by giving them Christmas gifts mainly basic needs like foodstuff, clothing etc. This festive season we are planning to give a nice Christmas gift to over 700 needy families badly affected by HIV/Aids and extreme poverty. Our areas of coverage include Kiambu East & West districts, Some informal settlements in Nairobi east (kiambiu slums).

80% of Kiambu populous live below a dollar a day. HIV/Aids and illiteracy has fueled poverty. Pouring fire on already blazing flames of hard living is the current weather patters and droughts. Inflation rate in Kenya stood at 17.3% in September 2011 with basic foodstuff costing higher that many major cities in the world. With many families not even affording a decent basic meal planning for Christmas is like fairy-tale. For this reason we are planning to give Christmas gift to most needy households.

This project will hold an active fundraising both locally and internationally. We target to raise material support from the local community. With donations letters appeals to Kenyan corporates, politicians, supermarkets and well-wishers we hope to raise food donations, clothing, shoes etc. Through Global giving we hope to raise monetary support for purchasing more foodstuff and logistical expenses. people can donate online via http://www.globalgiving.org/projects/christmas-gift-to-700-vulnerable-families-in-kenya/ If you are willing to share with friends a shorter link good for sms and tweeter is http://goto.gg/9136 The funds raised will also be used to organize Christmas treats and short fun trips for orphans and vulnerable children. This project will select the most needy families. The criteria of selection will give priority to families affected by HIV/Aids, widows, orphans and those in abject poverty. The project will be delivered in 3 ways, 1 We will have a basic package mainly of foodstuff to be given to many households. 2 Special package of food, clothes & toys to most needy families. 3. A Christmas retreat party to 80 children prioritizing on orphans and most poor. Remaining resources will be used on books and uniform

Quite unfortunately there are no known initiatives in our community doing Christmas project. many poor people are left out of the celebrations, our project aims to put a sense of ownership and inclusion to many poor families. Beside bringing joy the project is also therapeutic because it takes away the psychological trauma of guardians and orphan headed homes. The orphans have an opportunity to enjoy the season just like other children.
