“Treat others as you wish to be treated.”
Also known as the Ethic of Reciprocity, The Golden Rule has been restated throughout religion & philosophy, in nearly every culture & time period.
Why have so many cultures come up with an idea so similar?
Perhaps because The Golden Rule points to something that is so universal, so central to the human experience. As Karen Armstrong, winner of the TED Prize, put it, “It’s not just religious people who believe in The Golden Rule. This is the source of all morality, this imaginative act of empathy – putting yourself in the place of another.”
The Golden Rule calls for us to extend our concern beyond ourselves and to embrace a greater understanding and respect for all people. But living by The Golden Rule isn’t always easy. To treat others like we want to be treated requires a constant, active consideration of how our words and actions effect others.
By putting The Golden Rule into daily practice, and asking our friends, families and leaders to do the same, we can work toward creating a greater understanding and respect for one another.
Through grassroots outreach and creative Public Service Advertising campaigns, GoldenRuleTheWorld.org is working to promote The Golden Rule among individuals, communities & nations, across all cultural, religious & ideological boundaries.
Problema
The Golden Rule has been around for a long time. But today, it seems more relevant than ever before. With the world’s population reaching for 7 billion, and technology rapidly dissolving the distances (and differences) between us, we live in a world that longs for more compassion, more cooperation & more peace.
Inspired by The Charter for Compassion, and an urgent need to restore compassion and empathy to the heart of all human endeavor, we plan to engage a diverse array of groups and encourage them to work together for this purpose.
On the religious front, there is a burgeoning interfaith movement to increase the dialogue among the worlds religions. We feel that most religious people want to get along with people of different faiths, they just may lack the opportunity to connect with them. We aim to engage people of faith to rekindle interest in the one thing all religions can agree on: to treat others as you wish to be treated.
The Golden Rule is often associated with religious teachings, but the ethic has been embraced by non-religious groups as well, because it serves as a guide to something universal to the human experience: relationships. From family issues to business, government & international issues, The Golden Rule is a valuable principle that challenges us to adopt a bigger perspective and to consider the welfare of others, not just ourselves.
Solución
A world ruled by The Golden Rule is a world of peace, justice & compassion.
In The Golden Rule, we find a common ethic, or code, that transcends our differences and encourages us to consider the well-being of all humanity.
By promoting The Golden Rule among individuals, communities, and nations, across all religious, cultural & ideological boundaries, we hope to ensure a peaceful, just & compassionate world for this generation and beyond.
GoldenRuleTheWorld.org plans to fulfill this mission through creative Outdoor Media, Public Service Advertising & the sale of merchandise relating to our mission and slogan.
"Golden Rule The World" is a clear, simple & powerful message that speaks volumes for the benefit of all humanity. Our vision is to see this slogan and other creative messages on billboards, bustops, bumpers & more, in every city around the world.
Ejemplo
Leveraging the advertising component of our solution, visitors to the GoldenRuleTheWorld.org website will be encouraged to get involved in their communities by providing opportunities to connect with like-minded people, and to engage the leadership of their communities with letters, petitions, partnerships & resolutions.
For example, in 2007, Golden Rule advocates in Arizona encouraged the state to add "Live The Golden Rule" to the lineup of license plate designs.
The website will also serve to educate visitors of all ages with an interactive Timeline of The Golden Rule. The timeline shows the many expressions & events that helped to shape the world's ethical traditions.
By reaching out to individuals, groups, businesses & charities devoted to applying The Golden Rule in their activities & in their organizations, we plan to create a community of like-minded people, & encourage them to find ways of working together to bring about a world ruled by The Golden Rule.
Mercado
The marketplace for peace, justice & compassion is wide open. A world ruled by The Golden Rule is the world we want for our children, it's the world they deserve, and the world we all long for.
While there are groups, businesses & organizations working in our space (peace, justice, compassion & harmony among all people), we feel that our focus, creative slogan & positioning offers something new & innovative, and that has the power to rekindle the use of The Golden Rule, worldwide.
