Kid and Parent Foundation focuses on promoting services in the field of child development.
One of the key objectives is to address the affective development in very young children.
Specifically, the aim is to foster social-emotional development in young children by integrating Socio-emotional curriculum in the primary school environment.
The organization seeks support from governmental organizations and education boards to be able to facilitate, train and integrate Social Emotional Development as part of the primary school curriculum. While the existing curriculum does have a provision for Social Emotional development, there is little or no activities on-ground to foster Social Emotional Development.
The Finding M-Emo (Finding My Emotions) program is a highly-researched program that is scientifically structured and yet child-friendly. It is designed by developmental experts and works towards integrating socio-emotional development into the school curriculum.
This program has 3 key components
- Observation based contact program, where specially trained facilitators run a weekly program for children (3-8 years) addressing different aspects of social emotional development.
- A continuity program where the school faculty is trained on social-emotional development by experts in the field (psychologists, research educationists and counsellors)
- Finding M-Emo kit that is presented to the school to serve as an aid for fostering social emotional development
Problema
In India, education is targeted primarily towards academic development of the child. Over the past years, education system has evolved to include the physical development of the child (by inclusion of fine/gross motor activities in the curriculum). However what is left largely missing in the curriculum is the integration of social-emotional development of the child. This is especially true in the early-years of education (between 3-8 years).
Research Studies are constantly reconfirming the impact of early development on a child's adolescence and adulthood. Also, there is a body of evidence that confirms the profound impact that social-emotional development in early childhood has in reaching a well-balanced adulthood and at a larger social level, in becoming a good citizen of a country.

Kid and Parent Foundation focuses on integration of Social Emotional development in the school curriculum.
The program is called Finding M-Emo (Finding My-Emotions).
The program is highly-researched, scientific, structured and yet engaging to foster Social Emotional development for very young children.
This program has 3 key components that aid in the integration of Social Emotional Development into the school curriculum
- 4 Month contact program (based on prior observation), where trained facilitators run a highly-interactive weekly program for children (3-8 years) addressing different aspects of social emotional development.
- A continuity program where the school faculty and the parents of children are invited to series of workshops on implementing social-emotional development in classrooms and at homes. These workshops are run by experts in the field (psychologists, research educationists and counsellors)
- An annual kit is presented to the school to serve as a tool for fostering development. This tool contains a collection of stories, activities and techniques to build social and emotional intelligence in the classroom throughout the year.

Details of the program :-
Finding M-emo (Finding My Emotions) program is a “contact program-cum-continuity” series exclusively designed for primary schools to foster social-emotional development in very young children (3-8 years). The objective of the program is to integrate social-emotional development as part of the primary school curriculum.
(I) Contact program – The program includes face-to-face sessions (for a 4 month period) with primary school children and addresses the following core modules of Social Emotional Development
AHAM (A Hugely Aware Me) Understanding my emotions
I-C-U (I Care & Understand about others, environment and animals)
I-Can (impulse control, Self-care)
Building Bonds (with parents, teachers, peers)
Reasoning and Decision making (problem solving, critical thinking)
(II) Continuity Program – The school faculty and parents undergo a series of workshops run by experts for Social-emotional development in young children. (This entire continuity program can be done "online" to achieve reach)
The school management is also invited to take forward the "real" social-emotional activities such as
• Using “vocabulary based activities” to build socio-emotional literacy. The school faculty is given posters and key words that reinforce social emotional development.
• Providing the school an opportunity to enroll for the “Fistful of Rice” program. The “Fistful of Rice” is a program that has is successfully run by International Children Peace Council (which partners with our organization). Each student gives one fistful of rice a day for an underprivileged child.
(III) Finding M-Emo kit is presented to the school (this kit can be presented through Online medium in order to achieve reach)
• This kit is a folder with 5 compartments each containing a set of stories for one of the 5 core areas. These stories are carefully chosen and designed to promote social-emotional skills in very young children.
How to achieve Scale:-
The organization expects to achieve scale by seeking support from the government and education boards to take forward the curriculum integration systematically. To begin with, some states will be chosen for implementation of this program. Our organization will work along with the education board to choose a set of model schools for program implementation.
These model schools will serve as nodal points for other schools to understand and implement the curriculum.
How to maximize reach:-
The reach is expected to be achieved through a combination of online/onground activities, where there will be a large dependency on "online material" and a smaller but critical dependency on "on-ground" activities
The online material will address the "train the trainers and parents" through online training platforms (such as Moodle open source platform)
The onground activities will involve expert facilitators running the contact program involving face-to-face sessions with the children and initiating Social Emotional Development.
Once "onground" contact program and "Online" training concludes, a school-readiness check could be performed on a yearly basis for 3 consecutive years to ensure sustenance.

In India, very few institutions address social emotional development for very young children. The peers in this area are
- Some schools address social emotional development as part of their curriculum. They are not competition because our organization’s vision is to have an “integrated curriculum”. These schools actually serve as a model for us to learn from.
- Few organizations (such as geniekids) have a framework for running social-emotional development programs. However, they use home-grown frameworks and do center-based programs (not in the school premises but their own premises).
