The Pacifier

The toughest man in the American military faces a new kind of challenge -- looking after five kids and changing diapers -- in this family-friendly comedy from Walt Disney Pictures, “The Pacifier”.

“The Pacifier” tells us the story of Shane Wolfe, who is suddenly faced with juggling two incompatible jobs: fighting evil while keeping house. Shane must not only must defeat a world-threatening enemy but also wrangle teen rebel Zoe (Britanny Snow), uplift sullen 14-year-old Seth (Max Thierot) and outwit 8-year-old Ninja-wannabe Lulu (Morgan York), simultaneously keeping toddler Peter (Keegan/Logan Hoover) and baby Tyler (Bo/Luke Vink) out of mischief, not to mention harm’s way. Though Shane only knows how to destroy his enemy targets, he really has no idea about diapering, feeding, etc. He doesn’t know that he was already facing the most important mission of his life: becoming part of a family and bringing them all closer together.

“The Pacifier” also stars Faith Ford as Julie Plummer, Lauren Graham as Principal Claire Fletcher, Chris Potter as Capt. Bill Fawcett and Brad Garrett as Vice Principal Murney. The Pacifier is a ninety five minute “family-friendly” comedy which is directed by Adam Shankman (director of “A Walk to Remember” and “Cheaper by the Dozen 2”) and is written by Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant (the two screenwriters of the movie, “taxi”).

The movie is Rated PG. There are some violent scenes present in this movie. For example, the film starts with an action sequence that ends with the death of the family's father. There are also fight sequences just like the scene between Diesel and a couple of ninjas. Another is when the youngest daughter's scout troop beats up a troop of boys. The violence presented is the cartoon sort -- while some participants die, there is no blood. This movie also contains some bathroom humor, centered on poop. This is the kind of thing kids will remember and talk about with their friends.

One challenge for this movie is looking for actors, more specifically, the child actors. The kids were adorable. I think the casting director of this movie did a good job of finding child actors that weren’t annoying. All of the children did a good job of acting and they had some humorous moments of their own. The supporting casts were also good.

While writing my essay papers, I must say that I really like the acting of Vin Diesel in this film. He was great, funny and also serious and touching when needed. Diesel also gets support from Brad Garrett as the malicious and hilarious vice principal. The primary kid actors are all likable. Among these kid actors, Morgan York is my favorite. She has the funniest and fun scenes, as well as the better chemistry with Vin Diesel.

Overall, “The Pacifier” is worth a couple of laughs and was very entertaining. Kids will surely love this film. =)
