The work that Volker Posselt and his team have done at RollOn Travel is an excellent example demonstrating the economic sustainability of Inclusive Tourism.
.
I met Volker - and we became inseparable - in Bangkok at the UNESCAP-hosted Second International Conference on Accessible Tourism (ICAT) November 2007. He has a clarity of grasp of the needs of travelers with disabilities from his perspective as a foremost regional supplier of travel for our niche. I was impressed by the timeliness of his ICAT presentation on the need for Minimum Hotel Accessibility Guidelines in order to supplement legally mandated quotas for accessibility. We now work together to promote them worldwide.
.
Because he "gets it" from a businessman's perspective Volker is constantly advocating at industry fairs and with government agencies. He has begun teaching Tourism students in northern Thailand so that a new generation has access to best-practices early in their careers. He travels through the Greater Mekong Region offering practical advice to other businesses and lodgings so that the region's capacity as a destination-of-choice can grow. His suggestions were incorporated as we wrote the ICAT 2007Conference Recommendations.
Yellow Shirts - It Must be Monday in Thailand!.

In tourism "routes" can be just as important as "destinations" -- especially when travelers have mobility impairments. I have tested some of Volker's routes. Followed his suggestions at destinations and discussed new tourism packages for Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, and beyond. He is an innovator leaving a trail of good behind him!
