I don't know how old you are but I wanted to give you a heads up about the 2008 $2M HASTAC/MacArthur Digital Media and Learning Competition. We have introduced an award this year that target applicants aged 18-25. We want to young innovators get their ideas out of the "garage "and implemented! I'm not sure if your project has a digital media component, but take a look at the site and see what you think.
The theme for this year's competition is participatory learning, which we broadly define as using new digital media for sharing ideas or planning, designing, implementing, or just discussing ideas and goals together.
I've posted the full rfp below, please forward it out to your contact networks and anyone else you think would be interested!
Best,
Mandy

You have a very inspiring and important project, I look forward to seeing the documentary. I was curious how you engage the different communities and how you reach out to the former comfort women, do you work through local organizations? Also, when working with students what kind of ideas/projects do you use to link the history of the comfort women to current women’s rights issues?
1) We actually have reached former comfort women in Korea both personally and through an organization that deals with the comfort women issue. We will reach comfort women in other countries through the organization mentioned above, and other comfort-women related organizations in other countries as well.
2) Women have been frequently forced into sexual abuses during wars. Essentially the comfort women isssue is only one of the examples (also the biggest and worst one so far). At the very end of the documentary, we mentioned that sexual abuses also happen around us, and that domestic abuses, human trafficking, and dowry-related abuses are still rampant (thus linking the history of the comfort women to current women's rights issues).
Your project idea looks great! It is a very interesting and successful use of media. Can you provide additional details about what you plan to do after you show the video to large audiences? Explain your follow up plan and how to expect to engage the community.
Also, it might be interesting if you related this documentary to current issues.
