Hi Surjith -

Thank you so much for your entry. Rural ERP sounds like a really important tool for MSMEs in India. Being that Changemakers is home to so many India-based initiatives, your work should get alot of attention!

With that said, I was wondering if - in the conversion of this entry to a changeshop - you could help me (and others) better understand how Rural ERP plays out in the hands of the end user. What specific features will be most useful? Where do MSMEs really struggle without the benefit of a ERP software? Do you have any stories of specific users and the way that your tool has helped them streamline some sort of offline or outdated business process? And what was the learning curve for the user? Did you provide any training/assistance to ease adoption?

Answers to any of those questions might underscore why people need Rural ERP and how specifically it could help them.

Thanks again for all your great work!

Tim

Hi Tim,

This explanation is already the reply we've sent to your comment through email.

Thanks for your mail and apologies for the delay in reply. Rural ERP has got shortlisted to the Final of "The Power of Ideas - 2012" by The Economic Times and we are in the midst of a 10-Day workshop at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad from 13th Sep. And we've missed your mail in due course.

In the Indian market (maybe a worldwide notion) there are two common myths about ERP. 1) Complex and 2) Costly. We wish to break these myths and offer a Simple and Affordable product for MSMEs. The end user, MSMEs in our case, will get benefited by automating their entire line of functions ranging from Production, Supply Chain, HR, Customer Relationship, Quality Management, Financial Management etc.

Rural ERP helps Micro and Small businesses help their businesses manage effectively and efficiently to improve their 3Ps - Processes, Productivity and Profit.

Most of the customers are keen on implementing the CRM and SCM solutions as their first preference because that's where the concentration of management is by reducing the cost and maximize revenue.

At present most of the MSMEs have manually tracking their sales, HR, Supply inventory, expenses etc., or using some form of tools like Excel docs. Its a very difficult process to track all these things using these unorganized data. Rural ERP helps organizing things and relate to your business functions.

One of the customers we support in Chennai has captured all the Sales Orders through Rural ERP, convert them into Supply Orders and Dispatch them to customers. The sales people report to the management their daily activity and expenses and get approvals from the management. This way the errors in order management, dispatches, invoices, payments etc., have minimized. The customers can track and acknowledge the delivery thro' mail or sms.

The purchase department automates the purchase decisions based on the Requirements and manage the Vendors, Sub-contractors, Inventory, Bill-of-Materials, Quality Checks, Accounts payable etc., very effectively.

The workforce from the shop-floor (Skilled, semi-skilled or unskilled) view the production schedule, planning, material requirement, stock, preventive maintenance, over-time etc., record and track the entire production life cycle.

And we train the workforce to the various functions of Rural ERP and the learning curve is simple because the Product offering also simple and understandable and we closely work with the users to capturing data or migrating data from other systems as well. The language versions are also helping the users to shed fears that software system in a non-native language will be difficult to learn and use.

The cloud offering will benefit in less Total Cost of Ownership and Anytime Anywhere access. So that the MSMEs can concentrate on their core competencies rather than managing the infrastructure. The management can make their decisions quickly with the available data on hand and build strategies around it.

And Rural ERP will become a Technology Enabler to help build and improve the MSME Ecosystem. The same product can also be offered in other parts of the world in different languages in future.

Happy Experimenting.

Thanks and Regards,
