The main attractions of the project are the rivers, with water falls, jumps of six waterfalls and the scenery of its natural vegetation. The offer includes lodging, cottages, resorts, natural spa, horseback riding, restaurants, tours of the various water sources etc.
With the expansion of the services, organic food may be offered. Teaching: milking of cows, production of milk, vegetables and organic vegetables, cheese manufacturing, production of bio-gas, electricity and organic fertilizing. Therefore, the project has a lot of agro related activities.
To decrease environment damage and preserve nature, the project will produce clean energy, replacing diesel by bio-gas as fuel for electrical generators. Eliminating the pollution generated from agricultural waste. Reducing propane gas import and deforestation by replacing the use of firewood, charcoal and propane gas by bio-gas.
The Project will count with more than one hundred (100) cows on the farm and employees in the hotel.
Resources needed: a) repairing of various roads and trails within the ecological project, b) installation of telephones and the Internet, c) biogas production, d) electricity, d) organic fertilizers and) infrastructure, and f) equipment to expand the project.
Explain in detail why your approach is innovative
It is by combining innovative technology that the project will achieve its fruits. A combination comprising: a) land, b) housing, c) bio-consumers, d) water e) livestock (sheep, rabbits, birds, goats, pigs and cows), f) electrical generators, g) as fuel for bio-gas cooking and electricity generators (which will get an average of 20 Kw of energy), h) and ecological infrastructure; i) others.
It's a revolutionary idea, as it reduces costs, decreases environmental damage, soil and the ozone layer, taking advantage of new goods produced from waste, contributes to the growth of organic agriculture, the generation of jobs, clean energy production to reduce deforestation and the import of propane gas, setting up industries in rural areas, education, training and others.
It is also innovative in incorporating the Internet in an area where there is no conventional connectivity. To do this, it uses a wireless system deployed over long distances (see Listin Diario May 22 2009), which has been implemented by young Dominican students of the Santo Domingo Autonomous University (UASD) and recently improved, yielding very good results. Similarly, innovation is the installation of IP phones for voice service project in a rural area where there's no telephone service.
Impacto
Describe the degree of success you have had to date. How do you measure, both quantitatively and qualitatively, the impact on sustainability or enhancement of local culture, environment, heritage, or aesthetics? How has it transformed or contributed to the power of place or demonstrated the sustainability of tourism? How does your approach minimize negative impacts?
The project has more than three years successfully providing ecotourism services. It has five (5) cabins for couples and two groups of 20 each. It has an area for meetings, a lounge for dancing and an open office area, which highlights the degree of sustainability, both quantitatively and qualitatively. This does not include the agro-tourism. As a demonstration of sustainability it is necessary to expand the number of cabins for both couples and groups.
We have twenty (20) employees, excluding the agricultural, but it would be necessary to increase personnel to 40 people. Workers defend this wonderful place because they are aware that tourists come here for the charm of a beautiful landscape, with a special scenery and the existence of clean rivers, fresh water with beautiful waterfalls or cascades, and can enjoy security and peace, away from the worries of everyday urban life.
The negative impacts will be minimized through the use of waste to produce fertilizers and energy.
With the generation of clean energy and fertilizer waste exploiting, the project may become more attractive by including WI-FI Internet, and even more attractive including voice over IP phones.
In what ways are local residents actively involved in your work, including participation and community input? How has the community responded to or benefited from your approach?
Local residents are involved and participate actively in the project work, directly and indirectly through the Women´s Foundation “LA ESPERANZA”, which will be responsible for the work on projects of health, gender, sanitation, food, education, environment, employment generation and other issues with the local residents.
How does your program promote traveler enthusiasm, satisfaction, and engagement with the locale?
Promoting the satisfaction and excitement in the visitors, is based on a strong motivation to defend our natural resources. Through educational campaigns using radio, television, newspapers, billboards and other media. These strategies serve to a double purpose: both to develop the project internally and externally.
Describe how your work helps travelers and local residents better understand the value of the area's cultural and natural heritage, and educates them on local environmental issues.
The promotion includes an advocacy campaign related to love for nature that will be attractive, respectful, friendly and educational.

The main barriers are communication and energy requirements.

The plan to expand and develop the project’s approach is based on a good promotion on the defense of geotourism, ecotourism, subsoil, the ozone layer and environmental sense.

Our team is composed of an energy engineer, a civil engineer, an agronomist, an economist with a master's degree in alternative energies, two graduates in business administration, with a master's degree in human resources and the other a master's degree in finance.
The team has worked on the design and implementation of ecotourism projects and developed several projects on preservation and conservation of the environment and the use of waste to generate biogas and organic fertilizers. In particular, has worked on farms taking advantage of the agricultural wastes of humans and animals.
What is the origin of your innovation? Tell the Changemakers and media communities what prompted you to start this initiative.
The origin of our innovation is in combining technology, comprising: a) land, b) housing, c) bio-consumers, d) water e) livestock (sheep, rabbits, birds, goats, pigs and cows), f) electric generators g) bio-gas as fuel for cooking and electric generators.
What prompted this initiative began with the interest of preserving the excellent environmental conditions of the area. The natural beauty and water falls are the main reasons of the attraction. So, seeing that the agricultural wastes and deforestation threaten to affect the water falls and damage the forest, we sought to exploit the alternative resources, producing goods such as organic fertilizers and biogas to produce clean electricity and gas for the kitchen.
In this sense, the use of such waste will not only reduce environmental damage and the subsoil layer of ozone, but also will enable to produce new goods as organic fertilizer and fuel and the latter producing industrial goods, which can be used in the cuisine of the hotel and launch in the market, such as: cheese, sweets, and other organic goods.
Describe some unique tourist experiences that your approach provides. Be specific; give illustrative examples.
It would be a combination of integrated services for ecotourism, which is currently offered as lodging, resorts, natural spa, horseback riding, cabins, organic and conventional gourmet, sightseeing tours through the different sources of water, learning the different agricultural production systems. Incorporation of Internet and instalment of VoIP phone, in an area with no telephone services available. You can add the generation of clean energy and organic fertilizer production.
What types of partnerships or professional development would be most beneficial in spreading your innovation?
It needs associations interested in promoting the proper use and management of geotourism projects, both locally, regionally, nationally and globally.
At a local level, we identified the Women’s Foundation “ La Esperanza”, Inc, (FUME), introduced by the Executive Order No. 0198-99. It is a non-profit organization and is responsible forworking on project related to health, gender, sanitation, food, education, environment, employment generation and other issues regarding the local people.
At a regional, national and international level, we search for other entities that provide a benefit to promote the diffusion of innovation.
