Describe the degree of success you have had to date. How do you measure, both quantitatively and qualitatively, the impact on sustainability or enhancement of local culture, environment, heritage, or aesthetics? How has it transformed or contributed to the power of place or demonstrated the sustainability of tourism? How does your approach minimize negative impacts?

We have been raising public awareness. The hardest thing is to convince people to live in harmony together with nature. It has been created managements plans for the reserve, and wetlands among others. There is more presence of environmental and governmental organizations. It has been created commissions to trigger this issue; forums, workshops and trainings have been carried out.

In what ways are local residents actively involved in your work, including participation and community input? How has the community responded to or benefited from your approach?

It every community, it has been created regional development committees. The communities appropriated the issue, and they actively participate in the planning processes of local governments, for example, at Development Councils. Land owners and farmers have learned how to manage their farms differently; others exploit them for rural tourism.

How does your program promote traveler enthusiasm, satisfaction, and engagement with the locale?

In times when the American continent didn’t exist to the world, the adventurer that discovered it generated many trips to know it. In the same way, we have to let people know the initiative so it can exist. They will learn how is to discover something by bringing all good things, and leaving aside all negative things. That’s how we, humans and nature, will develop in a sustainable way.

Describe how your work helps travelers and local residents better understand the value of the area's cultural and natural heritage, and educates them on local environmental issues.

Our work raises public awareness. People learn about a 500 years hidden history. The richness and the potential of the territory make it unique. They are convinced that the development is in the conservation of the natural resource. They know they have to share it.

It‘s something to be discussed with the six local governments of the region, and it would be beneficial to discuss it in presence of the rest of the actors.

Is your initiative financially and organizationally sustainable? If not, what is required to make it so? Is there a potential demand for your innovation?

The initiative is sustainable, because is an almost virgin region for tourist investments. This situation makes it having more economic and financial potential development. It’s necessary a big investment, but time makes possible to recover it.

Barriers are that the region continues without governmental attention, donors don’t contribute to this area, political polarization, and the country’s regulations for investments.
