Transport is responsible for 25% of energy consumption and emissions of greenhouse gases in the world. Therefore the company generates the Travel Fair for reducing emissions.

Explain in detail why your approach is innovative
In Costa Rica most of the companies started to work on a purely commercial approach without realizing the ecological impact after the production and / or processing of raw materials.
Our company, MAPACHE Rent a Car ® generates revenue from its inputs. It has the consumption of fossil fuels, producing as much CO2 use and route of each vehicle in the fleet, so to mitigate the negative environmental impact; addressed to offset the same by paying for environmental services in different areas of the country, for carbon sequestration through reforestation of our forests.
Due to above, our company management is distinguished for being the first Rent a Car in Costa Rica C-Neutral. In view of this national recognition, MAPACHE Rent a Car ® company has initiated programs with shared values to solve social problems at a leading environmental and building value for shareholders, employees and general society.

Describe the degree of success you have had to date. How do you measure, both quantitatively and qualitatively, the impact on sustainability or enhancement of local culture, environment, heritage, or aesthetics? How has it transformed or contributed to the power of place or demonstrated the sustainability of tourism? How does your approach minimize negative impacts?
Based on our corporate social responsibility is now when more businesses and communities show their interest to participate in projects of social and environmental approach. One way to measure the impact that the development of this program has caused, is by increasing the amount of income relative to previous periods. In regard to the distinction of product Mapache Rent a Car ® offers a unique product, being the first rent a car in Costa Rica to offer clean emission-free travel of greenhouse gases which guarantees the customer that the trip is compensated through carbon sequestration through reforestation of forests.
We have developed awareness campaigns and motivation for other companies in the tourism sector are committed within their organizations to develop sustainable practices, also taught workshops nationally and internationally on environmental sustainability, another way is by sponsoring eco-friendly activities that will benefit both the community and the companies involved and hence the environment. In addition MAPACHE Rent a Car ® develops programs and activities to improve communities and the technical implementation of cleaner production and recognition in the process of carbon neutrality and solid waste management.
In what ways are local residents actively involved in your work, including participation and community input? How has the community responded to or benefited from your approach?
Product innovation projects and has generated satisfaction in internal and external customers as well as satisfaction and involvement of different actors in the value chain of service and product, that is where you install a headquarters or branch generates employment and consumption of local inputs. Upon receiving this benefit the community involved is identified with our product and therefore it promotes.
In developing our business under sustainable guidelines, we create a major attraction for other businesses in the area, promoting a culture of sustainability and achieving a consensus of the population that seeks to enrumbarse thinking conservationist.
How does your program promote traveler enthusiasm, satisfaction, and engagement with the locale?
The program itself is already an attraction, since they consume this product our client's implicit contributes to the conservation of the environment. Much of our clientele is minded conservationist thus making use of our product and guarantee satisfaction in MAPACHE Rent a Car ® is the primary customer service focused on sustainable lines.
Tourists come to a national leader who is concerned in its operation to generate principles of sustainability and create a friendly environment, conservation.
Describe how your work helps travelers and local residents better understand the value of the area's cultural and natural heritage, and educates them on local environmental issues.
Being a sales service to a foreign population in most media are used as brochures, flyers, stickers, documents and internal and external communications through emails. Through the website, internal and external signs, as well as information and surveys the work in magazines and newspapers.
Domestically the firm has a manual of good environmental practices, which guides the organization toward the appropriate use of resources and encouraging recycling. This also is shared with companies that show their interest in adopting the guidelines set by our organization

The contributions of programs and initiatives that we are financed by own resources of the company. We would like to have more budget support to disseminate the initiatives, invest in training and creating support networks in communities.
The company has no financing to date, no contributions from any source than their own.
Is your initiative financially and organizationally sustainable? If not, what is required to make it so? Is there a potential demand for your innovation?
The company has now 3 years to have these projects to date, and tourism is characterized as a social and economic activity that encompasses a number of important points that need further and require that are sustainable. We must work with the host nucle to achieve a professional job, is required for development, capital, efforts and support of professional networks and that tourism is a phenomenon that has a growing presence in international economies and requires harmony and friendly relations with the environment.
What are the main barriers you encounter in managing, implementing, or replicating your innovation? What barriers keep your program from having greater impact?

• Lack of national policy.
• Commitment to achieve a better work in the area of awareness and education.
• Lack of incentives for the development of new programs.
• Genuine Will of stakeholders in the development of processes and programs.
• Lack of programs in communities.
• More financial resources to generate and develop more programs in education
What is your plan to expand or further develop your approach? Please indicate where/how you would like to grow or enhance your innovation, or have others do so.
First of all, to consolidate and achieve early successes have new strategic partners, government support for development projects and availability of programs, policies and standards to achieve better development and profit.
Second, count on the support networks to gain support from environmentalists, professionals who understand the needs and have a tourism product development to harmonious coexistence with nature and the environment.

What is the origin of your innovation? Tell the Changemakers and media communities what prompted you to start this initiative.
The organization was founded in 1994, is a 100% interest that arises by a Costa Rican family and a hobby that applies the policies of the Costa Rican government, service providers and supplies, the environment, employees, board Directors and the community.
As corporate interest aspire to social development and economic and corporate growth, with the desire to contribute to environmental conservation, being the only Rent a Car in a step towards the sustainability of tourism management.

My name is Jackeline Lopez Cordero. I am 45 years History Educator Occupation with different titles at the professional level within the field of education from preschool education to second cycle of Secondary Education. I have a degree in the Management of Special Needs Education and a Masters in Social Science with emphasis in Educational Administration. In addition to other Masters in Environmental Management Project.

Partnerships with government, municipalities, ONGs (non-governmental organizations) International Organizations Environmental advocates are concerned the business environment and social community.
It would be nice to have the support at national and regional levels in order to disseminate the initiatives and to serve for many mainstream environmental policies and environmental development in organizations and networks would be ideal to achieve volunteering for the realization of the projects.
