La necesidad: ¿Cuál es el problema que tratas de solucionar?
We are fighting stigma against women living with Hiv/Aids.In Uganda nearly every family has lost a member or a friend due to Hiv/Aids. Whereas the country has made significant progress in combating the epidermic, for the women living with the disease, each day is a nightmare. While positive men can move on with there normal life, women have to struggle with overcoming stigma at every level of the society on a daily basis.
La solución: ¿Cuál es tu solución? Sé específico.
By Activating emphathy, changing people's. The goal of Mothers of Hope is to fight stigma right at the schools and community level. We do this by raising awareness and empowering those considered by society as victims by making them active players through music, art and theatrical performances. By making the affected people ambassodors of hope, we want to send a signal to the community that these women deserve a chance and acceptance in society. With the prevalent rate at 7% Uganda has still a long battle a head, we hope that this project would make some contribution to making women's life better

The project motivates the infected women to come out of the closet and declare their status, this help in the prevention of new infections, secondly, the project provides for the affected persons and their family a support structure by linking them to other women going through similar life conditions. The idea here is, that synagistic actions isolation, depression and loneliness would be overcome. Through exchanges and experience sharing new ways of coping with the the diesease are learnt.Thirdly, the project empower women financially through art and crafts whereby the affeced women directly earn from their handcrafts, this money helps them to buy crucial medicines and care for their families. We are activiting empathy by encouranging participation of these sick women, we want to break stereotypes and stigma by helping those infected and the non infected mutually interact. We do this through school outreach whereby we perform music, art, drama, exhibition and sharing personal testimony. Our solution makes a difference because it looks at the problem in a systemic way, we engage family members, community leaders, the private sector which is potential employer of these women, we engage public institutions and finally, we publicise our activities in the media.

Our Peers are the local organisation of women women living with Hiv/Aids,Schools local authorities and health practitioner. Our competitors are big national and international organisations that possess ernomous resources. What differentiates us is our approach to the problem. We put the affected person at the front and we let them design how best they want to commnicate their message. In addition we employ a three tier approach: reactivatation, rehabilitation, participation of the affected in the society. We see no immediate threat from our competitors nevertheless we acknowledge our lack of financial resources to fully optimize our activities.

Todate, we have brought together over 50 women living positive with Hiv/Aids, these women have been empowered with different skills such as communication skills, hygiene and and proper nutrition skills, business skills and basic computer literacy skills. The most important aspect of our trainings is that the affected women have been empowered to pass on similar skills to sub-community groups where they live. This solution not only enables us to reach more affected women it also encourages the affected women to feel a sense citiizenship and self worth.

It was a quiet morning when, Rose entered into our humble office, in a very shy but determined tone, she asked if we had any job available for her. We asked her if she wanted any specific job and she insisted, any job as long as it can enable me buy some crucial anti-retroviral medicine and look after my children. She opened up about her health status and explained to us why she was trying hard to fight stigma whenever she enters any office to seek work. Because we did not have the capacity to recruit her, we asked her if she could think of create of anything that we can translate into a job. She then told us she could neat mats, on that same day, she sold to us twobeautiful hand-made mats from recycled materials and palm tree leaves. This marked the begining of the group mothers of Hope, from here we widened our approach from one person to several other women suffering from similar problems.
