La necesidad: ¿Cuál es el problema que tratas de solucionar?

The main problem in the society is social isolation due to variety of reasons. If children are isolated they cannot possibly understand each other. Misunderstandings cause further estrangement, bullying and even racism. Our aim is to fight against inequality among children, encourage friendship, prevent bullying and teach children to cooperate.

SuperClass is a competition for school classes. The basic rule we have is that each and every member of the class has to participate. The project brings new skills to every child not just to selected ones as in other youth project. Children recieve new experience, new skills on music, drama and other art activities. The main role is that the project changes the social climate in the group of children. When the classroom works on the project (performance), for the first time they have a common goal, where everybody is involved. SuperClass solves the problem of social isolation of a child within a social group as it lets kids get to know eachother how they otherwise never would. By making them work on a common goal they get closer and misunderstandings become fewer and farer between. It teaches them empathy towards each other.

We have had a case of children from Roma slum in Eastern Slovakia ( whose school attendance has previously been very low) suddenly willingly going to school because the class was training for SuperClass. They felt they were needed. Children within the class realised that everyone of their classmates has a talent for something.
There have been numerous cases of bullzing disappearing after a class started with SuperClass, again because the children got to know each other better and they learned to work as a team - every team member was important.
There have been classes that had to include an integrated (mentally or physically challenged) member. It was never problematic. For many children from other classes this was a unique experience - they for the first time realised for example how complicated is it for a blind child to have a role in a theatrical performance and yet she managed wonderfully, or how can a person bound to a wheelchair dance - and he could.
In SuperClass classes are given a socially-tied theme every year (for example "Once I Am Old..." or "One for all and all for one" or "Each of us is a star, together we will shine the sky up"). They have to make up a musical theatrical performance (create one) and then train it and then present it. Everyone must be included and they have to use at least two different kinds of art (e.g. music and painting or drama)

SuperClass is a multi-art project for grammar and secondary schools. After 4 years we have achieved that the project was included into official school curriculum. The project is offered to everybody - for any class in the country, everybody in the classroom must take part. Our authorities are the best people in the country from 4 most important Universities, artits and expert from electronic medias.
We do not really have competitors - no other project like our exists in Slovakia or as far as we know elsewhere.

No other similar project exists that would join art and social issues. It works as has been proved over its 7 years of existence.

¿Cuál ha sido el impacto de la solución hasta la fecha?

We have more than 24 500 children participation in the project all over the country comming from all parts of Slovakia. Children from the majority, all national minorities and all type from schools including special schools for challenged children, children with behavior problems etc. ... All these children have presented their performances together in theatres across the country. They got to know each other, learned to cooperate and they earned an experience of performing on a real theatre stage.

¿Cuál es tu impacto proyectado para los próximos 1-3 años?

In the 2011 first classes from Romania, Hungary, Serbia, Czech Republic and Ukraine visited Slovakia and started to work on the project on their national level. In june 2012 in Bratislava (Slovakia) will be organised the international final round, first classes from Switzzerland and Finland start to prepare their SuperClass projects. In 3 years we plan to involve into the project more countries from europe, we plan to have 7 CEE countries and at least 7 other eurpean countires participating in the competition.

¿Qué barreras pueden dificultar el éxito de tu proyecto? ¿Cómo planean superarlas?

The biggest barrier is the financing of the project. OZ Supertrieda is a NGO working without contribution of the state. The design of the project is determined of the financing possibilities and grant opportunities on the national and international level.

Historia de la fundación: Queremos saber acerca del momento en el que hiciste "¡Ajá!". Comparte la historia de dónde y cuándo el/los fundador(es) vio (vieron) el potencial de esta solución para cambiar el mundo.

We have more then 500 teachers in the project evey year. The "Aha" came after the first year of the project when we recognised that teachers and children realy want a change, from their feedback we could say that we have found a platform for anothe type of education, coexistence in the classroom between childern. That was the proof that the project is working.

We have a plan to build up a team from 10- 15 people working in the ngo. In every country we plan have about 50 volunteers.

Our most pressing need is money. If we had that we would have more time to work on spreading SuperClass into other countries. Our second problem is personnel - we are only two coordinators working full-time on the project and a few volunteers
