IT Training Program for People with Disabilities (ITTP)
Ubicación
People with disabilities face many barriers to education and employment in Vietnam. To address this, Catholic Relief Services has implemented an advanced IT training program for youths with disabilities (ITTP) at two existing schools, one in Hanoi and the other in Ho Chi Minh City. In addition to technical training, this project also includes soft skill training, and business linkage to ensure trainees are equipped with skills needed by employers.
Reason:
This project has demonstrated success. So far, more than 500 students have graduated from ITTP and more than 80% of them has found jobs after training. Indirect benefits include: - IT jobs are more prestigious, helping reducing social stigma toward people with disabilities. - By having employees with disabilities, companies learn about the capacity of people with disabilities and may become more open to hire more people with disabilities. - After witnessing the success of project participants, other youth with disabilities may become more hopeful about their future. I am nominating this project because I believe ITTP is an effective model that deserves recognition and replication.
