La necesidad: ¿Cuál es el problema que tratas de solucionar?
The youth of the nation are the focus of Unnati program. If harnessed properly, the youth can be key drivers in creating an India which is a force to reckon with.Unnati aims to bridge the socio-economic divide present in the country, by bringing underprivileged youth into the mainstream. This requires a 2 pronged approach. “A” provide them with employable skills. “B” make them valuable citizens of the country. Students are trained in life skills and value education which helps them chose an attitude that is Progressive and Inclusive thus making them an asset to the society.
Unnati is an attempt to offer the the best possible launch pad for the underprivileged. For we strongly believe that uplifting the underprivileged youth will have positive repercussions in the society.
La solución: ¿Cuál es tu solución? Sé específico.
UNNATI program – is a 70day job oriented training program for the youth.
• Drop-outs (both girls and boys) aged 18 years and above, belonging to economically backward sections of our society, are eligible for the 70 days training.
• On completion of training, the youth are placed for employment with reputed organisations.
• Currently the training is offered in 8 vocations – Retail sales, Instore, Guest care Hotel, Guest Care Office, Industrial tailoring, Entry level Voice & data (BPO), Security services, Industrial painting
• The training is offered ‘free of cost’ to the youth. Unnati pays for all the expenses such as training materials, training costs, bus passes, food, and accommodation for outstation youth.
• In addition to imparting vocational skills, Unnati trains the youth in life skills, communication, spoken English and basic computer usage.
• Unnati believes in Equality and Human values - No discrimination on the basis of gender, caste, creed or religion.

SGBS Trust’s UNNATI program – is a 70day job oriented training program for the youth. The program starts with the interview process where youth from all parts of the country (mainly Karnataka) come to Unnati with their original certificates, age proof, BPL ration card and photos. The youth might be totally uneducated to SSLC fail/pass, PUC fail/pass to graduates with some incomplete papers. All youth based on their education and their interpersonal skills are selected for vocation streams like Data entry, Retail, Housekeeping, Industrial Painting, Industrial Tailoring, Security and Guest Care. Hostels are allocated and bus passes are provided for the localites. It is an intensive job oriented training where the faculty work on the confidence level of the youth. They are taught spoken English, basic computers, Lifeskills & Values, Public speaking and their vocation. The classes are interactive and more time is spent making them talk than the faculty deliver lectures. The methodology is unique to Unnati and has proven to ensure social transformation.
The program culminates with an on campus placement week. Various companies are slotted for placement based on the pay package and benefits provided to employees. All students are placed under 3 days with salaries ranging from Rs.6000 to Rs.10000 a month.
Thus, through Unnati program, unemployed youth from economically weaker sections of our society are able to get a steady job, augment their family income, improve their standard of living, and join the national mainstream.
There are many institutes and organisations providing vocational training in India who can be termed as our peers and competitors but Unnati program is unique. The motto of Unnati, ‘learn, earn, stand tall’ is aimed not only to make them ‘employable’ and engage in a gainful job, but also to transform them in to responsible citizens for our country. So far more than 2000 underprivileged youth have been trained and placed on stable jobs – 2000 families have gone above the poverty line – forever.Unnati admits youth aged above 18 years from underprivileged families - They could be school drop out, might not have even had any formal education.Unnati does not discriminate on the basis of caste, creed, religion.

¿Cuál ha sido el impacto de la solución hasta la fecha?
The Unnati program has been in existence since 2003. In these 9 year more than 2000 youth and their families have benefitted from this program. Not only does it ensure that the beneficiaries go above the poverty line as their starting pay would be in the range of INR 6000 to 10000 per month, but also ensures that their family has also benefited as these youth have been transformed for life. The youth ,more often than not ,get eager to complete their graduation and improve their educational qualifications to raise in the corporate ladder.
Single point test that we use for measuring our success is that “whether every one of the trained youth is placed in a job with a reputed organisation at the end of 70 days training."The test has been positive so far with each of the 2000+ youth.
¿Cuál es tu impacto proyectado para los próximos 1-3 años?
The current average of youth getting trained and placed in jobs in Bangalore center is 80 youth per batch and we have five batches in a year.So with 8 new centers coming up in next 1-3 years more than 2500 youth are expected to get benefitted by our program. Not only does it ensure that the beneficiaries go above the poverty line as their starting pay would be in the range of INR 6000 to 10000 per month, but also, ensures that their family has also benefited as these youth have been transformed for life. The youth more often than not get eager to complete their graduation and improve their educational qualifications to raise in the corporate ladder.

SGBS Trust is also running a Shiksha program for the underprivedge children. It so happened that while monitoring the benefits of this program and its influence the trustees found that after the primary and secondary education the children just left studies and were jobless.Thats when the "UNNATI" idea originated as an extention of shiksha program so that these children when they turn youth are not deprived of oppurtunities because of finance and are given a chance to learn, make them capable thus making them a part of the mainstream of society. There was no looking back since then. From a 2 bedroom flat facility starting with minimal students, we have now a dedicated building with the capacity, infrastructure to train 150 youth per batch and 5 batches in year.Shiksha continues to provide educational assistance to more than 350 underprivileged children every year.
