What is the primary problem your venture is trying to address and how are you addressing it (or planning to address it)?

The project aims to train the former students of basic Informatics in the school community of Mairinque, that is part of the socially unprivileged area of the city. With that course, we seek to give a chance for more students to join more easily in the work market and/or follow career in the area of Informatics in future and give continuity to this course as instructors.

Project Description

Showing the students that they are capable of following the career in Informatics and in other areas, stimulating them to develop in that matter.

Unique and different

Today, to understand about how computers work is a differential for the professionals, and there are also many paid courses in informatics, however, a youth with social disavantagdes may have never seen a computer in its life, even if he/she were interested. Many times it is possible to learn or he/she thinks he/she is not capable of learning it.
The project Pérola offers a course of Basic Informatics to the youths of Mairinque ,and our course suggests that this youth that have been in a basic course develops his knowledge a little bit more, so that he know that’s he/she is as capable as anyone and even in a few cases hey can find a real gift in themselves with this, so that they can use that in their career and multiplying that in the community, so that the project creates a growing cycle.

Project plan

I intend to pass on the concepts that the course proposes to the former students of the basic informatics course of the school of Mairinque. I hope that in this time i can stimulate the larger number possible of students showing them that they are capable of taking the course, it is not hard. I also hope to find students that find in themselves a talent for the area of informatics and also students that are interested in teaching, once they have learned, so that the projects continues in the community.

Partnerships

The main partners of the projects are my colleagues from the internship, that share the same idea as me. The Project Pérola is another partners, an NGO in Sorocaba that gave us the computers and also supported us in our internship. The community school of Mairinque, where the future students of this projects already study informatics, they also offered to us the classroom for the classes.

Impact

The impact with students will show better training and incentives to continue the project that will transform the community in long term.

Effectiveness

The project has not started, then there has not yet benefit with project. As I said earlier, the target audience of the project are former students of Informatics basic school community of Mairinque, which are chosen by family income criterion, because the course is free of charge.

How do you engage and impact the community?

The Community received well the idea of the Project, perhaps seeing it as chance of changing the community in the long term, because the target audience are young people of the community, the Community School of Computing provided us with a room delivery lesson materials a day per week, showing the course by the community.

How do you measure this impact?

Great, because as young people are the future of community and they will be the target audience of course, they will be the factor of processing of the community in the long term. Better jobs will be offered because of the better training and the course will be maintained by the former students.

Obstacles

The challenge is to make the youth gain more self-esteem, showing that it is not because they have limited resources or that they haven’t got in touch with computers before that they are not going to learn. Another challenge is to stimulate other graduated students to maintain the projects.

Fuente de financiamiento

(or how do you expect your initiative will be financed)

The project already has some features to start, like computers that have been donated by the project Pérola, we need the seed funding fromf GMM to buy equipments for computers, for the educational course and for the transport of two members of the group from Mairinque per week, because they are not residents in the community.

Aside from financial sustainability, how do you plan to grow and sustain your project?

The project is only an initiative in the community, which will be continued by students themselves trained in the course that will be given. In the future, they may becomeinstructors and perhaps mirrored in the initiative, the students themselves can create new courses in the community, related or not to informatics.

Finance details

Computers and space for the classes we already have. Also 4 people on the team, everyone between 19-22 years old. We have one partner that is Project Pérola.

Creative funding

Resources have been achieved through partnerships, we showed the project to the partners also showed them the benefits the project would bring the community and the results that long-term would be noticeable. The financial resources, as proposed by panelists of GMM, will be achieved through a symbolic fee that will have as it is only purpose to sustain the project.

Other non finance needs

The non - financial resources for the project has already been made, as said earlier have been achieved through partnerships, for example, the Project Pérola, provided computers and lesson materials, requiring only a few equipments, and the school of Mairinque provided us the space for the classes.

Motivation

The idea came up because of the course that already exists in Mairinque, that is also known as social well being, the motivation came through the Project Pérola, offerering the opportunity to present our idea in the “GMM” Program and also getting a seed funding for it. This allows a trainning of the youth to get interested in the project ans transform their own community

Awards

No, Just the support of the community for the project.

Broader context

The project aims to bring to youth experience the more so they can more easily deal with the job market or even follow career in the area, causing they to acquire an interest in the area. The focus of the course will also be in show students that the computer is not difficult and that they can also be able to make a career in the area, transforming the community that they live.

Ongoing

We hope form the first class in the course, and offer to the best students the opportunity continue to the project as instructors, paid by the the Project Perola. This model hás been used y the organizations and works really well.
