International Peace Park Expeditions creates a new breed of educational, sustainable adventure travel that helps preserve stunning wilderness areas, and protect unique cultural heritage, while providing travelers with one of a kind border crossing experiences, and meaningful cross cultural interactions with the local people in some of the most beautiful places on earth. No other organization in the travel industry has identified the potential of International Peace Parks as destinations; nor the combination of adventure, education, environmental awareness and altruism that will differentiate International Peace Park Expeditions.
International Peace Parks are transboundary conservation areas that are jointly managed across political boundaries from an ecosystem perspective, and demonstrate and encourage meaningful cross-border cooperation, and symbolize the peace between the peace park nations. The World Conservation Union and WWF International hails International Peace Parks as an effective tool to jointly manage trans-boundary ecosystems for environmental preservation, the benefit of the local people, and the improvement of the collaborative relationship between nations.

What is the likely impact of your idea?
International Peace Park Expeditions can maximize their positive impact in three main areas -
1.helping promote sustainable economic development and environmental conservation for locals from the peace park region.
2.helping to publicize and educate expedition participants and other travelers about the concept and multi-fold benefits of international peace parks.
3.helping to provide the opportunity for meaningful cross-cultural interactions and the development of cross-border friendships between people from all countries within the peace park as well as participants in our expeditions.
What would it take to launch or spread your idea?
A grant of $5,000 and the publicity from the Conde' Nast Contest and the exposure via the Changemakers Partnership of organizations would go a long way to ensuring the success of this organization in its infancy. Ultimately, it will take an estimated $50,000 over the next 3 years to ensure that minimum growth goals are met; and ideally an estimated $200,000 over those 3 years would allow for the hiring of additional staff and contractors to work towards maximizing our chances at attaining financial sustainability.

Describe yourself as a social innovator.
I hold a Masters in International Peace and Conflict Resolution from the School of International Service at American University, focusing my research on International Peace Parks. I am also a National Outdoor Leadership School certified adventure guide with wilderness emergency medical training. I was the Balkans Peace Park summer program director in 2008. I have traveled to research and write the environmental peacemaking case study of the joint management of the water resources in Lake Titicaca on the border of Bolivia/Peru. I also created a construction site safety program for Habitat for Humanity, while traveling in Costa Rica, and now it's expanded throughout Spanish speaking Central & S.America, and being translated into French to expand into Africa. International Peace Park Expeditions would allow me to combine my education with my wanderlust, and passion for making a difference.
