The impact that a sustainable tourism project
The impact that a sustainable tourism project may produce on the local communities where these projects are carried out is often an important subject to be addressed. Although on most cases the exact impact that certain initiative is going to produce is not known, we can imagine some of its indicators.
What do you think about the following impact indicators?
• Independence regarding natural resources management and recovery of lands that allow improving the income of the autonomous community families in an ecotourism partnership.
• An enhanced promotion of the community based tourism by means of the joint action of the tourism sector value chain with other companies and associated local institutions
• A significant number of young people return to rural communities, who – after concluding their studies – start getting involved in community-based projects.
In your particular case, did your initiative produce any impact, the mentioned above and others, on the local community or the community-based organizations?
How do you build a strong case for the communitarian organizations so that they participate in community-based or sustainable tourism proposals?
What are the lessons learned through experiences being developed regarding the aim of improving the income and quality of life of the communities participating in sustainable tourism projects.

É triste lutar contra as políticas locais que nao apoiam os
pequenos empresários sociais. Em minha cidade em particular somos tristemente ridicularizados por políticos e representantes de autarquias que deveriam ser os maiores interessados em desenvolver um turismo com maior enfase no social.
Its hard to believe in social change when that is not any support to new ideas that value people and their heritage. Sometimes we are made fun of by representatives of institutions which should work in prol of tourism itself.
Our Project values history, preserves heritage and at the same time generates self value to those who are not being recognized in the tourism chain for one reason or another.
Hello Marcia. Thank you for your comment. I was wondering if you have any experience in making local authorities get involved in this kind of projects and if so if you could tell us about it.
