What is your idea? What makes it innovative? Why is it important?

To engage out-of-school time children's programs worldwide in an affordable, safe and fun story-driven media game, which will become the primary source of child-centred inspiration on the future of cities and will lead to happier children and healthier cities.

Will you launch your idea as a business or non-profit?

What will be the impact of your idea?

As a multi-disciplinary game that involves interaction with professionals from a wide range of fields and with children all over the world, it will expose children to a range of experiences and people they would not encounter in their normal formal education environment. It will encourage children to be active citizens in local and global communities; improve media literacy; give children a voice in the design of future urban environments by connecting them directly to professionals working in the field; provide governments, professionals and educators with a rich media database of content on the future of cities as seen through the eyes of their future citizens.

Who will help you develop your idea? Why are you the one to make this happen?

A network of professionals from fields of game design, education and urban development have already been involved in product design, these include representatives from Out-of-school time programs at schools, museums, libraries and community groups who will be target users of the service. We are currently working with design and development partners to build a prototype for the purposes of testing and capital raising. The core team behind The TEN Project is John Tattersall and Therese Fingleton, who between them have over 25 years of experience in media - new and old - and in running education and development programs. More information on the team and our growing list of supporters and contributors can be found here - http://thetenproject.org/team/.

How much will it cost to launch your idea? (This can be an estimate)

On current estimates it will cost approximately $100K-$150K to launch the project, which will be launched initially in the US, Australia and Brazil. We estimate working capital start-up requirements for the first two years of operation are estimated at approximately $350K.

Because the next generation need to see through each others eyes around the world, to share problems and creative solutions, and there's no better/simpler way than sharing media (vids, pics, words, links, images) of their ideas/life/urban surroundings and empowering them by the ability for that media to inspire professionals and their own generation. The future depends on cities being built right; and next generation of cities is entirely dependent on the next generation and how engaged they are in the shared issues of their future.
