New online technologies and social networks
What are the benefits of promoting a project in a social network? What are the benefits of doing so through a web page? Is there a significant difference between one and the other in terms of costs?
Are significant resources -either human or financial -required in order to keep a web page and/or social network updated?

I just found this forum... Extremely relevant and exciting topic! Thanks for the initiative, Patricia! :-)
In my opinion online social networks have the potential to turn powers in the travel industry upside down. Travel suppliers have the chance to promote their product easily through social platforms. Responsible travelers are empowered to find their most valuable travel experiences, connect with the local communities and share experiences with other fellow travelers. A virtuous cycle could start!
That's exactly what we are working on at pocketvillage. Besides building a platform allowing you to dream, plan, book and share your travel experiences we want to connect the yet unconnected travel operators in the developing world to the int’l market. The key will be a innovative mobile phone service.

Looking forward to inspiring discussions, here & there! =]

Hi Florian, I've been surfing your website and I must say it is really educational.
Many times, people in charge of this projects find online social networks difficult to use and they often don't do it. Do you have any advise on how to take on this challenge?
Does it take a lot of time and resources to have a profile in a social network?
Thanks, Violeta
Hi Florian and everoyone else,
Just found this forum too - indeed very exciting and relevant.
I love the look of your project - it is exactly what is needed. You might also be interested in our site - www.muchbetteradventures.com which has set out to resolve the same issues, though we are focussing on the adventure sports world.
We are building a free, selective marketing platform for local, ethical adventure operators and accommodation. Our mission is simply to help the small initiatives, community tourism, not for profit and charity operations connect and access a wider share of the market.
Look forward to further discussions about all this. It seems there are a few of us who have set up to bridge the gap between travellers and local, less connected operations.
