Boond is a very simple social enterprise that solves the three biggest development problems in India (adequate light, clean water and pest control) by providing the poor people living in remote areas with solar lamps, water filters and mosquito nets (along with soaps and toothpaste) as a part of the Boond development Kit. The kit has been designed with active participation of the villagers, is manufactured in bulk and bundled together to keep the costs low. It is sold with 3/6 month payment plan by local recruits/NGOs working on commission.
It is fresh, measurable, innovative and simple with a huge impact. Within the past eight months, it has already managed to establish itself in 5 villages with over 300 kits sold with 3 to 6 month financing schemes and has impacted the life of over 1000 people. Sound designing, bundling essential development products, cross subsidizing (as seen on the website)and involving locals in the supply chain assures that this business is sustainable as well as well planned.
