Development of a very simple, pottery water system, that is effective, acceptable to users and very low priced. The simple technology is readily transferable.
Liberia, Sudan, Kenya, Guinea, the Ivory Coast, Bangladesh and Nepal, and others. i.e. the so-called third world.
Potable water for all. Sanitation for all. Non-polluting stoves for all.
Included is work over twenty five years in development, pertaining to ceramics and high temperature processes. Pottery water filter systems of the SilverCeramicSystmes design are now in production and in use in Nepal and in Kenya, among other locations. In the past two years I've done, 1. several trainings in Kenya, getting a stoneware pottery into production of the pottery water filters, as well as beginning prototype production of pottery 'rocket' stoves, 2. several trainings in Chad, getting local potteries into production of environmentally-sound, pottery cook stoves. 3. recommendations to a U.S. government agency, that were subsequently accepted, providing for the capacity building of ~1,000 Moroccan potteries. These have included the potteries' access to: improved kilns and fuels and processed clay and glaze materials, along with other inputs.
