I recently started Plant A Fish, an experiential nonprofit organization designed to empower communities and children to help restore their local water ecosystems through the healthy “replanting” of key marine species. Initial programs include the restoring of oysters in New York’s Harbor, mangroves in South Florida and sea turtles in the Gulf and El Salvador.
I grew up learning about and exploring the ocean and its marine habitats with my father and grandfather.
For people to understand that environmental discipline can be the basis for innovative solutions that strike a balance between regional and global environmental problems and the realities of market economies.
Growing up on the salt-stained decks of his grandfather Jacques Cousteau’s ships, Calypso and Alcyone, Fabien Cousteau, third-generation ocean explorer, documentary filmmaker and environmental ambassador, was destined to further his family’s legacy by exploring and protecting our water planet’s wondrous and endangered marine habitats. Fabien most recently launched Plant A Fish, a new non-profit organization whose mission is to empower communities to become involved with responsible ‘re-planting’ of key marine species in distressed bodies of water around the world.
