What makes me a change maker is the work I do, I try to empower people especially young people through different ways especially using ICT.
I belief through my work in the Gambia YMCA I have tried in my own little way to changing the ways our young youths in the Gambia look at society and career goals, hence I consider myself a change maker. I have now developed an Educational / Cultural Exchange program to bring young people from the North, especially College students to explore the Gambia and get involved in various Educational / Cultural activities that can bring about social change in their lives and young people they come across in the Gambia.
I feel highly connected with the place of my heart because of the amount of times I think of what the place has brought to millions around the world through the great team that plays their and it brings alot in unity and makes dreams come true.
The change I passionately want is too see generally how ICT can play a role in the development of rural dwellers socio economic life in developing countries especially in Africa and the Gambia in particular, because through ICT we can do a lot in bridging the divide not only between North and South, but also between Rural and Urban settlements, if this is achieved a lot could have been achieved.
Also Educational / Cultural exchange program between young people in North coming to the South can also play a significant role in change.
Apart from my role in coordinating the activities of the Gambia YMCA Computer Training Centre & Digital Studio, am also a keen writer and do sports analysis on Radio in the Gambia, I also over see our exchange programs for young volunteers coming to volunteer in the Gambia YMCA especially our digital Studio. I lecture students to on various aspects of computing especially system change and Internet System Development too. I have written and presented several papers on ICT as a tool for sustainable development.
I act as Country Coordinator for the World Links Program in the Gambia, training teachers and students on how to best ways of using ICT as a tool for learning, I am the National Expert for World Summit Award on e - content in the Gambia and a member of The British Computer Society. I oversee the Global Teenage Project activity in Gambia on Learning Circles for teachers and students and also the Mtandao Afrika project.
I love Eco tourism, and like taking visiting friends, professional colleagues on river trips on the River Gambia and visiting good eco tourism site. I advocate for young people to use their skills in creating a positive outlook in their life, and whatever way I can help in doing it I try to.
I try to live by these words:- "It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent. but those most responsive to change".Charles Darwin"
