In October of 2008 I completed the sale of Global Scholarship Alliance,(GSA) www.globalscholarship.net . I am the founder and creator of the organization which is a unique social business that is for-profit and funds graduate studies in nursing. As far as we can tell we are the largest provider of scholarships for advanced studies in nursing period. A one point we had secured funding for over 500 scholarships. This was a mission driven sustainable system that received significant acclaim that was designed to help reverse the global nursing crisis. I am still a board member and a major stock holder. I have been reading a variety of books on Social Entrepreneurs and Ashoka’s name comes up again and again as an organization that is supportive of positive social change through new and creative modeling by the development and encouragement of entrepreneurs. This is truly very fine music to my ears and I applaud you for being part of such a fine endeavor. I am currently engaged by an individual to form a new scholarship company to fund woman from underserved communities. This takes about 40% of my time and pays me enough money so I might pursue other areas of interest. I specialize in socially responsible business modeling that is economically compelling and sustainable. I have a background in innovative financing using, countertrade, barter and offset. (see attached Executive Summary) I started out over 25 years ago working at a former 3M division that specialized in large corporate barter transactions. I spoke about 20 years ago at Thunderbird School of International Business in Phoenix on creative thinking using countertrade. A Philippine governmental official who was ahead of countertrade for the government heard me speak and invited me to the Philippines to speak to governmental and business leaders. I now realize looking back, from this point on I was a Social Entrepreneur and applied my skills to helping developing countries. I have since been to the Philippines over 50 times working on and creating a variety of projects and business models. I am fairly well known in the Philippines as exemplified by sitting on the board of trustees for the largest Catholic education system St. Paul University. I have advised the Development Academy of the Philippines, DAP. The primary governmental think tank. I can develop new strategies that are needed in the market place that are economically compelling and socially responsible that produce significant and lasting change. Over the years I have been contemplating other models in a variety of areas including healthcare, education and the stimulation of local economies in developing countries. I have only had time the last several months to attempt to put them down on paper. You will find that all of the models are linked as part of the health/education/economic continuum that we are all part of. I have written drafts of models for the following: • Healthcare funding for developing countries: an economically compelling profitable model to provide in country healthcare education which expands technology and improves services. • Healthcare infrastructure for developing countries: which accepts barter as payment and provides the needed education via an education general contractor that coordinates a turn-key system to deliver the exact pieces necessary to build the healthcare infrastructure. We know the key players and where available funding is to develop this program. This can start with healthcare infrastructure and expand to other areas of education. • Reversing the US nursing shortage. I spend 10 years figuring out this model based on conversations with hundreds of nursing leaders. This is for the US but pieces of it can be used elsewhere and in combination with the other models. • Stimulating Local economies in Developing Countries: a traditional trade exchange system in coordination with traditional non-profits who switch to service in kind to create a stimulus for local economies. This creates something that has never been done before a barter model that can function profitably in the developing world. We have the expertise, contact base, software and understanding how to make this work globally. I believe this could augment other micro loan efforts. In all cases the models are economically compelling, socially responsible and sustainable. If interested, I am hoping to receive your permission to send you a summary of these models in separate e-mails. I am looking to promote the ideas and I seek your guidance and wisdom. If some of the projects are deemed to be of interest you may have suggestions on how to move forward with the most feasible models. I do not have the time, infrastructure, finances or global net work to bring these programs to the market. I would be very pleased to once again give birth to an idea that can produce significant positive change. If anything I have written may be of service for your organization I will consider it to be an honor to have been of assistance. I have come to the realization that my talent is in the creation and development of new ideas and models. I just hope I can pass a few of them on because they are worthy of your attention. President Truman said you can accomplish a lot in this world if you are willing to let others take credit. Thank you for listening. Todd Bol Todd H. Bol 715-338-2223 tbol@Care-Forth.net
Besides my home of Hudson, Wisconsin I have a fondness for Asia especially the Philippines.
The stimulation of local economies by the usage of a new barter system that utilizes partnerships with traditional non-profits and creates a service in kind program which will maximizes the economy especially if it is combined with micro loan programs. The time is here for new economic models that are profitable, sustainable with strong social missions. I also have several new economically compelling healthcare delivery and education models I would like to see implimented.
Todd H. Bol Phone: 715-338-2223 tbol@care-forth.net BIOGRAPHY Market driven social entrepreneur with the ability to create self sustaining models. I am able to visualize the logical conclusion to complex problems by fashioning reasonable, sequential steps necessary to achieve the desired results. An illustration of this problem solving skill is when I designed a sustainable model to reverse the global nursing crisis. This crisis paralleled the deforestation of the rain forest. Both problems could be solved using an ecological model. Viewing Nursing Professors as an endangered species, I designed a model to accelerate the creation of more nursing professors which would lead to increasing the capacity in nursing schools, which in turn leads to more nurses. This creative solution resulted in the formation of Global Scholarship Alliance (GSA) which has secured funding for over 500 nurses to-date and is the largest provider of scholarships for advance studies in nursing. I’ve been told that where others see brick walls, I see a multitude of solutions to the problem. As the economy tightens the need for creative financing models accelerate. By utilizing countertrade methodologies, I have been able to turn a loss of a commodity sale into a profitable scenario with increased margin. By design, the creative steps that are necessary to complete a countertrade transaction of this kind often produce less risk and exposure than traditional sales scenarios. Clients have said that I have the characteristics of a transformational leader who can crystallize a vision with greater clarity, have more people see it, support it, align with it, contribute to it and join its final creation. My approach is to generate new win/win partnerships by shifting paradigms to create increased market share and/or demand. This thinking has enabled me to expand markets by maximizing capacity, and by providing funding to help achieve growth. My first university education partner grew from a test market of 8 honor graduate nursing students to over 80 scholars, doubling their international student body. In addition to providing scholarships, we were able to provide state-of-the-art healthcare training and education to emerging economies. My passion is to create and develop self sustaining models that move economics, culture and society forward.
