Aly Kassam-Remtulla is the Associate Director for Academic and Administrative Planning at Princeton University where he works in the Offices of the Provost and the Executive Vice President. He is also an advisor to non-profit organizations and foundations including the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, Human Rights Watch, Planned Parenthood Federation of America and United World College-USA. Previously, Aly was a Program Officer at the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation in Chicago where he was responsible for a diverse portfolio of grantmaking and special initiatives that provided over $60M to non-profit organizations in Belgium, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, Russia, United Kingdom and the United States. Earlier in his career Aly worked at an executive search firm, an investment bank, on a U.S. senate campaign, and as a research assistant to a Nobel Laureate in chemistry. Born in Kenya and raised in Canada, he graduated with honors and with distinction from Stanford University, and holds a Masters degree and an MBA from Balliol College, Oxford University where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar. Aly is completing his doctorate in higher education and is a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University. He is on the board of the National American Civil Liberties Union, the Oxford University Society, and the Center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity at Stanford University. Aly’s work and writing have been featured in The Advocate, BusinessWeek, Chicago Tribune, Chronicle of Philanthropy, and the South Asian Philanthropy Project.
