In the past 10 years, I've been working to bring about change in men's and specially young men's behavior, towards a gender equitable society.
That would have to be Recife, my hometown, a city that has written some of Brazil's most important political moments, has a very diverse and rich cultural life, but also, sadly, is a place marked by an extreme socioeconomic inequality.
To see men and women living free of gender based constraints, building a society based upon human diversity and the defiance of all forms of violence.
I’m a psychologist and have a master in Public Health. My thesis’ theme was the challenges and possibilities concerning interventions with male perpetrators of violence against women. Since 2000, when I got involved with the feminist NGO from Recife Instituto Papai, I’ve been working with gender, masculinities, health and gender based violence against women and girls. It was during the six years at Papai that I got good part of my knowledge and passion for these themes, thus becoming a political activist for gender equity. I’ve worked as a consultant for NGOs like Promundo and Cepia (Rio de Janeiro) and White Ribbon Campaign (Canada). Since 2009, I’ve been working for the NGO ISER (Institute for Religious Studies – Rio de Janeiro), coordinating the evaluation of a batterer intervention program. Since 2005, member of the Wasan Project, an international training program for young leaders on the themes of system thinking and cooperative behavior. Member of the Brazilian Network for Gender Equity (RHEG) and of the Brazilian White Ribbon Campaign.
