Perhaps first we should agree that "media" is not simply print or radio and TV...if we can agree that media may also be an open-access website and information shared on mobile phones?
The issue is that despite South Africans and the continent's citizens engaging in many citizen protests, there is little comprehensive monitoring, tracking or analysis freely available on this important social phenomenon.
By offering an open-access monitoring, tracking and analysis service to which ordinary citizens can contribute, we are profoundly transforming the political space for public dialogue and political contestation.
No longer are citizen protests the exclusive concern of politically engaged activists, elected politicians, professional journalists and sadly, the police. This service creates a public space for reporting on citizen protests and for public discourse on their meaning and causes.
Analyzing meaning & causes of protest is a VERY important contribution to the overall public governance of the ENTIRE WORLD, and this model could well be the wishers' dream of taking action Ghandi style, with passion, patience, perspective & perseverance in the face of polic & other officials that would rather see unrest so it can respond accordingly (or otherwise they WOULD respond accordingly to a higher sense of order/protection/guidance as a professing authority in a non-ending politically contested [world] governing system! ! It's a pleasure to see this entry. Where will the divide rear it's ugly head again? If not on TV, radio & print then the computer has a HUGE AMOUNT of clutter to take the place of opposition on the [rally/protest] grounds. YET, with open access monitoring, tracking & analysis, MORE AWARENESS will multiply as people get the feeling of having a VOICE that transforms media, politics & social disorder/disagreement at large. Dialogue with the heart at the venter of an issue will prove to be the messiah of MEdia! We will heal ourselves, given enough time & patience & stamina on the part of [personal, everyday] volunteers. It's up to US All & your idea gives us a better chance @ change, & changes our efforts to chance fate! Thank you & persevere. Pace your Peace WiTHiN Patience with Perspective & Passion.
Yes! Here's to bringing down the cost of TRUE, accessible change, in Africa & the witnessing WORLD,

It is very easy to fall into a cynicism when working for social transformation in Africa but the evidence of a vibrant and increasingly engaged citizenry in many countries in Africa is supported by the growing movement to ratify the African Charter for democracy. elections and governance.
Should just 15 African states ratify this Charter, it becomes the norm across all 53 African states. Thus far only 2 states
have ratified the charter which contains significant clauses supporting public participation in governance.
The envisioned open-access monitoring service will also track and support the African Chartist movement as it works to get 15 countries to ratify the charter and then embed its values across the continent.
Would you build a 'cause' around this Charter, bring on the 2 states for advertising, & get the rest to join through a social site like facebook (fb)? There are many ways to get the necessary attention...53 states can seem like 1000 or 10 depending on how you reach out to the ZERO's; do it through youth, or giving away bottled water, or coupons, or anything that's needed/popular/wanted by people simply to bring attention to this very important cause to change governance for everyone...they'll see how much you care when you share/give the work with/to them; give them a voice (fb) & they will speak/raise the volume!
