Tell us the story of your idea or project
The Aboriginal Student Association at our school would like to host an Aboriginal Youth Conference with six high schools in our school division (Mountain View School Division). Social Impact
This Entry is about (Issues)
Please tell us about the social impact of your idea or proect
The youth conference is an opportunity to connect with other peers/students their age (high school age). It's an opportunity to meet potential employers. This netowrking creates confidence and comfortness in the idea of employment, social skills, and sustainability.
Your Future Goal(s): Tell us what you hope to achieve with your idea or project in the next year
Our goal is to have this project year to year. It creates consistency, trust, something to look forward too.
In 5 years, what will be different as a result of your idea/project?
I truly believe that more and more Aboriginal students will be inspired to achieve post secondary schooling or work towards quality, permanent employment.
Sustainability
Tell us about the people/ partnerships that are already involved and why they are important to your idea or project.
We have created partnerships with administration at our school. The community also has a group called "Parents Support Group of Aboriginal Youth", which we have also made quality connections with. We have been in contact with the City council, West Region Tribal Council and the Northwest Metis Council.
If there are other people/partners that you will reach out to tell us who they are and why they will be important to your idea or project.
We would like to make more connections with businesses in our community. I think it is a great opportunity for businesses to invest because it will be these children that will be their employees.
Describe the kinds of support you receive (other than money) or will need to support your idea or project (e.g.: donated, space, equipment and volunteers)
We are currently looking for volunteer space to host our event. We live in a small town and have to rely on very few places to host our event. This has the potential to be costly if we do not get a volunteer spot.
Do you currently have funding for your idea or project?
No (skip next two questions)
