Agriculture Consultancy Services
Indian villages, with 75% of total population of total Indian population, should be the strength of India. India is even fortunate to have half of its total population under the age of 30 year. Out of these 600 million young people, 60% lives in villages. Such a large energetic and enthusiastic man-power can play a vital role in growth of any country. But illiteracy, food-shortage, poverty, unemployment, etc have made-huge population-a problem in India.
One of the major problems in India is crisis in agriculture. India has been trying to achieve 4% growth in agriculture ever since 8th five-year plan. Despite the favorable initial condition for farming, the rate of growth of agriculture and its allied sectors has been very low with 2.5%. The number farm suicides in country were 16,196. When Indian agriculture is full of opportunities, then why we are encountering such a crisis! These facts made me realize that Indian farming has been crying for attention and something must be done immediately.
Gandhiji’s emphasis on marrying ‘brain and brawn’ in order to achieve rural regeneration gave me the idea to use the man-power of a village itself to develop farming. My idea is to start an ‘Agriculture Consultancy Services’. It is an enterprise where all the problems related to agriculture will be addressed by a team of graduates specialize in agriculture, animal husbandry, etc. An ‘Agriculture Consultancy Firm’ is an enterprise where
1. ACS will provide assistance to farmers (guide farmers to use new and advance technology) during the entire phase of farming to increase agricultural productivity.
2. ACS will train the young people of villages to tap to immense opportunities associated with agriculture and recruit them in its team. Hence employment will be generated in the village under the recruitment policy of company.
3. ACS will educate farmers to practice other practices like horticulture, fishery, poultry, etc in post-harvest phase of agriculture. It will try to bring an entrepreneur out of every farmer.
4. ACS will charge its fees as a certain percentage of the revenues that the farmers start receiving at the successfully implementation of ideas. Before that no fees is charged.
In this business –plan, I will have graduates specialized agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, home-science, etc. This team will be trained to impart their knowledge to the young villagers. Young villagers will also facilitate communication with farmers.
Through this business-plan, I am trying to solve two problems of Indian villages.
1. Growth in Agriculture: Due to lack of education, many farmers don’t know the new and advanced agricultural practices. They don’t know their rights. They don’t know the privileges provided by Indian government. They can’t reach the right buyers of their product. ACS will guide the farmers to address these problems. Farmers will also be encouraged to practice other practice like horticulture, fishery, poultry, etc in off-seasons of farming. It can increase the agricultural productivity and farmer’s profit.
2. Employment Generation: Under the recruitment policy, the employees of ACF will be selected from the same village and trained to perform company’s job. This will reduce unemployment. Further, this will bring interest and new skills for agriculture among the young villagers and stop brain drain to cities.
This is an idea which addresses the problems of many countries in the world. Food Security is a very important issue and taken care by the government of any country. But when the people themselves start taking care of it, the rate of growth in agriculture can be tremendous. My idea will help out every country who is facing crisis in agriculture.
Mahatma Gandhi often used to say, “Gram Swaraj (Village Independence) is the pathway to Purna Swaraj( Complete Independence)”. I dream of such a world and my idea will be my first step towards my dream.

Please tell us about the social impact of your idea or proect
1. Growth in Agriculture: Lack of education made farmers unaware of the advance techniques in agriculture. They don’t know the privileges provided by the Indian government. They can’t reach the right buyers of their product. ACS will guide the farmers to address these problems.
2. Off-Season Income: Farmers and their families will also be encouraged to practice other practice like horticulture, fishery, poultry, etc in off-seasons of farming. It can increase the agricultural productivity and farmer’s profit.
3. Employment Generation: The employees of ACS will be selected from the same village and trained to perform enterprise’s job. This will reduce unemployment, bring interest interest and new skills for agriculture among the young villagers and stop brain drain to cities.
Your Future Goal(s): Tell us what you hope to achieve with your idea or project in the next year
I want to start my enterprise in a village, start offering my services and encourage farmers to seek guidance from 'ACS'.
In 5 years, what will be different as a result of your idea/project?
In 5 years, I see the farmers of few villages in India as an entrepreneur who is trying to tap the immense opportunities with agriculture. I see the agricultural productivity getting increased due the implementation of advance technologies and practices. I see the trend of brain-drain for employment among the young people of the villages getting reduced. These young people will be guided and trained to tap the huge employment opportunities in the villages. With the improvement in financial condition of villagers, the living of standard will also improve in those villages.
Sustainability
Tell us about the people/ partnerships that are already involved and why they are important to your idea or project.
At this stage, it is just an idea. But I will be recruiting graduates specialized in agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, home-science, etc. They are important because we need consultants who can find desired solution related to agriculture. They will be required to do some research specific to a village. A standard practice is not profitable everywhere. It should be mended as per the surrounding conditions to ensure maximum profit. I will have a management team in the nearest city which will monitor the situation of the villages and work in coordination with the consultants in villages to avail them the required services.
If there are other people/partners that you will reach out to tell us who they are and why they will be important to your idea or project.
To start our enterprise, we need angel investors to fund our project. When we get associated with a reputed brand, it automatically generates trust among the service providers and service users. When we go to a village where people are in very miserable state due to losses in farming, we need their trust to leave the conventional practice and explore new ones. A brand will help us out in that category.
Describe the kinds of support you receive (other than money) or will need to support your idea or project (e.g.: donated, space, equipment and volunteers)
I will use ‘street-plays’ to promote our campaign among villagers. We have to tell the villagers about our enterprise and the benefits associated will it. In Indian villages, no other mode of promotion is effective as illiteracy and absence of television, radio, etc made the promotion campaigns difficult. Many a times we will face difficulty in understanding the regional languages. So I want a local ‘Street Play’ Group to promote our enterprise in the regional languages. In Indian villages, the availability of space is easy and later stages of our business we expect volunteers from colleges to help in bringing “Gram Swaraj” (village independence).
