Disrupt, a platform for systematic entrepreneurial change.
Disrupt is a social movement that will create a permanent cultural shift in change-making and entrepreneurship. The movement will consist of three different phases which are the creation and distribution of the entrepreneurial ideology, the formation of change-making committees and the creation of the online idea-sharing platform.
First, the ideology is a collection of principles that has been proven to create entrepreneurs, leaders and social change-makers. It is extracted from careful research with educators and parents. Therefore, it is non-prescriptive. Using the ideology, the key stakeholder groups can create their own approaches and eco-systems to foster young change-makers.
Second, change-making committees will be established in elementary and secondary schools. Each committee will be consisted of 2 adults, 2 educators and 6 students. The committee will be responsible to create change-making programs and strategies for their school.
Lastly, when the committees have been established, a conversation of change-making would have been started. Leveraging this buzz, an online platform for parents, educators and students with the tools and resources will allow them to connect and share about principles for grooming entrepreneurial kids.
The project will make a difference because the result of this movement is permanent. Unlike other social organizations, Disrupt aims at parents who are the key decision makers for entrepreneurial education during early childhood. The idea will be successful because:
1)The information is non-prescriptive.
2)An immersive environment is created by engaging students, parents and educators.
3)What we are building doesn’t exist.
There are a few key stakeholders who will be involved in this project. They are educators, parents and students. Educators, parents and guardians will be involved through partnerships with schools, the ministry of education and school boards. Strategic partnerships with existing NGO concerning entrepreneurship and creative education such as Junior Achievement, The Montessori Group and others will also involve youths, parents and educators.
There is a need to promote entrepreneurship in the First Nations community. The First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Economic Development Commission (FNQLEDC), the First Nations of Quebec Business Network (FNQBN) and Aboriginal entrepreneurship stakeholders and various owners of Aboriginal business (start-ups or in expansion) companies all recognize the need to put the young aboriginal entrepreneurial spirit into good use. (http://www.cdepnql.org/pdf/Publications/M%C3%A9moire%20ANG%20version%20f...)
In addition, existing statistics prove that my project will make a difference. The model of using entrepreneurship to promote economic prosperity and personal development has been done before in different ways. In a Boston Consulting Group research, Junior Achievement, an organization that promotes entrepreneurship in elementary and secondary schools through after-school programs, proved that participants of Junior Achievement had on average, 50% higher income than average people and is 3x more likely to hold a senior management position. (http://www.jaimpact.com/pdf/BCGReport.pdf) With the same principle, Disrupt uses the innovative way of early childhood education to groom young entrepreneurs through an immersion environment in school and at home. The result is almost guaranteed.

This Entry is about (Issues)
Please tell us about the social impact of your idea or proect
Entrepreneurial education supports not only economic success, but learning success as well. As studies have shown, by possessing an entrepreneurial mindset people develop entrepreneurial intent, creativity, perceived desirability, perceived feasibility and propensity to act. (http://www.vlerick.com/en/12958-VLK/version/default/part/AttachmentData/...). This project will allow the current generation of young First Nations, Metis and Inuit People to be change-makers who have empathy and the intent of creating value. Long-term wise, the project is a legacy that will permanently create value for society. Once the current generation of young people grows up and have a family. They will continue to educate their children in an entrepreneurial environment.
Your Future Goal(s): Tell us what you hope to achieve with your idea or project in the next year
Establish change-making committees in 70 schools, achieve 10,000 usanders on the online-platform build 10 partnerships.
In 5 years, what will be different as a result of your idea/project?
There will be more First Nations youth around the world who are entrepreneurs that are running social enterprises and for-profit businesses. They will be creating value the society, create jobs and drive the economy. Those young aboriginals who aren't entrepreneurs will create more value for their employers. In turn, more young aboriginals will hold senior management positions. Most of them will have a higher income and be more self-confident and empathetic. This project also will have been spread across the world. Change-making committees will have been implemented in every educational system for every demographic. Every parents would want to raise an entrepreneur. Everywhere in the world, society will benefit from the value added by a new generation of entrepreneurs.
Sustainability
Tell us about the people/ partnerships that are already involved and why they are important to your idea or project.
The key people that are currently involved in this project are two partners who work in Ashoka, an elementary school teacher, a professional in childhood education and another student. They are crucial to the project because they bring in ideas from every stakeholder group. Specifically, one of my partners at Ashoka, Vipin has an immense network that he leverages in order to make this project happen. Newey, another partner from Ashoka, brings a unique perspective from Thailand and the Asian educational community. The two professionals at BC, Glenis and Goran provide on-the-ground knowledge and expertise of the educational system. Finally, my other student partner is always there for discussions. Every member of the team is indispensable in making the project happen.
If there are other people/partners that you will reach out to tell us who they are and why they will be important to your idea or project.
I would like to reach out to key figures in key stakeholder groups. They are executives at the Ministries of Education and the Ministries of Aboriginal Affairs, decision makers in non-profit entrepreneurial organizations such as OCRI and TiE Global, experts like Guy Kawasaki and Tom Byers, management at alternative educational groups like the Montessori Schools as well as reporters in media. These connections are important to my project because the knowledge from educational experts and entrepreneurial groups will contribute to the successful creation of the ideology/guideline, the ministries of education and the ministries of Aboriginal Affairs will speed up the implementation of change-making committees and the non-profit groups and media will accelerate the growth of this project overall.
Describe the kinds of support you receive (other than money) or will need to support your idea or project (e.g.: donated, space, equipment and volunteers)
I would love to receive support in the areas of connections, volunteers and space. The most important of the three is the brokering of introductions which will allow me to access the networks as stated in the previous question. Volunteers will also be great. The support from volunteers can be used in doing research and at web-design and marketing because they can help grow the project's online presence and awareness at the beginning stages. Lastly, an incubator which would allow my team and I to brainstorm and meet will help us focus and reach our targets faster.
Do you currently have funding for your idea or project?
No (skip next two questions)
