dreamcatcher
Previously I had taken advantage of Aboriginal Business Canada funding to purchase a business. As years passed and I decided to begin my consulting business and I knew from speaking to numerous aboriginal friends that many were not aware of the funding available. Not only did I want to have my consulting firm correct this deficiency I also wanted to provide the best business training/consulting available once each client secured funding for their venture. So I came up with the Dreamcatcher Crowdsourcing Program. If a person is a client of Dreamcatcher Business Solutions (DBS), my company, they have the option of participating in this program. Each time we consult with the client our blog will become a journal of our contact with them and the advice given.
Consultants from all over the world are welcome to come and comment on our advice. This way the client not only accesses our knowledge but the collective knowledge and experience of consultants globally – this is the crowdsourcing part. At the end of our time together based on the advice they read in our blog, the client will decide who they feel gave the best advice. The person who is chosen by them is rewarded 10% of our consulting fee. After the client has made their choice for the best advice, we at DBS will also state our opinion of who gave the best advice and why - but only after the client has first made their choice. In addition, this service will be offered at no extra cost to the client.
My idea first came to me when I was reading the book, “Wikinomics”. In the book the CEO of Gold Corp used crowdsourcing to help his geologist find a huge vein of gold – which had previously been eluding them. The idea then coalesced when I decided to launch my private consulting company. I believe that my idea would make a difference because not only would clients get consulting from me but they will also be able to tap the minds of others. In time as this program becomes popular it will be another excellent vehicle for companies to promote themselves.
I believe that I will be able to get consultants to participate in this program because many universities and consulting groups are eager to work with aboriginal companies due to the considerable amount of opportunities made available – such as the procurement strategy for aboriginal business, as an example. I am letting it be known that I am using my blog as a screening technique to find collaborators to work on opportunities made available through many of these opportunities. My idea will make a difference because it will not only teach aboriginal people tools to effectively run their business/organization it will help to create sustainable economic development for aboriginal communities.

Define your idea / project in 1-2 short sentences
Aboriginal Business Consultant uses crowdsourcing to augment and enhance the level of service and advice delivered to clients.

Social Impact
This Entry is about (Issues)
Please tell us about the social impact of your idea or proect
Not only should those that are involved find numerous ideas on how to improve their business, organization, or non profit, but this blog will remain indefinitely archived on our website and the ideas created can be viewed by future aboriginal people for use in their own organizations.
Your Future Goal(s): Tell us what you hope to achieve with your idea or project in the next year
I hope to create a critical mass of clients and numerous collaborators
In 5 years, what will be different as a result of your idea/project?
I believe that if this process for delivering consulting becomes known and if popular other consulting organizations will either have to improve their delivery of their services or risk losing market share to my company. Either way, aboriginal communities and organizations will benefit because I will continue to improve the roll out of services on a regular basis.
Sustainability
Tell us about the people/ partnerships that are already involved and why they are important to your idea or project.
I’m currently working with a social media consultant. We are not only going to roll out this program with traditional marketing, advertising and pr efforts, but we plan to use social media as well. Occasionally, we will survey our visitors to see how they found out about the website. We may be able to determine if there is a return on investment for the social media marketing – an elusive measure for most companies.
If there are other people/partners that you will reach out to tell us who they are and why they will be important to your idea or project.
Approximately 100I will reach out business consultants throughout the world, beginning with a focus on North America. I would also like to get to know the many aboriginal communities and organizations across the country. This could be bands, metis associations or institutions that service these groups – government offices, aboriginal financial institutions, etc. words left (800 characters).
Describe the kinds of support you receive (other than money) or will need to support your idea or project (e.g.: donated, space, equipment and volunteers)
If I can prove my idea and my knowledge as a consultant I hope to get the approval or at least mention from influential aboriginal leaders.
Do you currently have funding for your idea or project?
No (skip next two questions)
