What makes your idea unique?
VAP uses Grassrootsoccer,GRS curriculum which contains a series of games and activities that allow youth to explore sensitive issues relating to HIV/AIDS.Professional soccer players,teachers, peer educators and other role models are trained as G-PANGE Skillz coaches to deliver this games-based curriculum to youth aged 10-18 years.The GRS curriculum requires active participation and creates a safe,team-based environment in which participants can comfortably share their feelings,beliefs,and ideas about HIV/AIDS.

What impact have you had?
Since the inception of this innovative program,VAP peer educators have delivered this interactive curriculum to 6,600 who have completed the entire curriculum and empowered to conduct peer education activities within their communities,reaching thousands more through formal and informal educational sessions.
Problem
According to WHO,76% of the people in the world who are HIV positive live in sub-saharan Africa.50% of new HIV infections are in 14-24 age group.Young people from the age of 14-24 are particularly at risk for engaging in risky behaviors
and contracting HIV/AIDS.
Actions
By using soccer as an educational tool,VAP is employing innovative methods to attract young people and help them learn effective methods and skills for preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS.The concept of using sports as a development tool is quickly emerging and being recognized internationally as an effective means of reaching youth with health messages.
Results
Youth exposed to our programs become knowledgable and GO OUT AND TEACH THEIR PEERS AND THE COMMUNITIES THEY REPRESENT..
What will it take for your project to be successful over the next three years? Please address each year separately, if possible.
For the 1st year:VAP will hire a Project Director who will oversee the management and training of all trainers and volunteers and will coordinate school
visits and events.VAP will also hire a program officer who will be coordinating the 15 peer educators as well as writing reports.The 15 peer educators will be hired as part time staff and will be delivering the curriculum in 5 schools and 3 community centres targeting 5,600 students.The curriculum will be delivered primarily as an after school program.
For the 2nd year-VAP will again work with the same number of 15 half-time peer educators and 2 full time staff targeting 5 schools and 3 community centres targeting 5,600 students.
For the 3rd year- VAP will maintain the same number of personel and targeting the same number of participants and making it to a total of 16,800 students in 3 years.

The Story
What was the defining moment that led you to this innovation?
VAP works with HIV/AIDS infected and affected youth from within Nairobi.Many of these youth come from families living in extreme poverty and have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS.HIV/AIDS prevalence continues to grow in Kenya despite of various efforts to prevent it.
Tell us about the social innovator behind this idea.
VAP was founded by Enouce Ndeche, a former footballer.The initial goal of the organization was to provide the disadvantaged children with an opportunity to better themselves and increase their livelihood through sports.
