CHIPARAMBA GREAT EAGLES & FOOTBALL ACADEMY
Location
The football academy, which exclusively focuses on youth, organize practice for about 120 children every day, 5 to 6 days a week. The age categories 10, 12 and 14 year olds continuously organize games/tournaments for kids of their age. The 16 year olds play in local series in Lusaka. When games and football cups take place, food and transportation is provided by the academy.
To further develop youth, the academy started to collaborate with The Chiparamba Foundation that will in the near future provide with schooling and other education for the players and their siblings. With the help of The Chiparamba Foundation in collaboration with Grassroot Soccer, work will continue to give more and more children the opportunity to fight the virus that threatens to wipe out a whole continent.
Children of Lusaka look up to the Chiparamba players when they visit different compounds to teach kids to play football and inform about HIV/AIDS.
This project proves that football is a very good tool to spread information about HIV/AIDS in the Southern part of Africa, where football is very popular. In Lusaka’s eleven compounds football is played barefoot everywhere on dusty gravel/dirt grounds using footballs made from clothes and tape making Chiparamba heroes and role models. Partly because they are role models outside the football fields but also because they are very skilled football players.
