Dear Chris-

Have you ever heard about Critical Exposure? I just heard a story about them on the radio today. They were working with youth in Washington, DC to teach them how to use photography to document what their schools were like as a way to better understand DC's high school drop-out problem. Really interesting stuff and an innovative way to tackle a pervasive social problem.

I thought that you could do something similar with your idea. I would really encourage you to think about using some of the funds to help the kids become better photographers/artists as a way of helping them better express themselves. This experience would last much longer than any of the photos or the public art that the youth would produce.
