OSCAR Foundation- Organization for Social Change Awareness & Responsibility is registered under Bombay Public Trust Act,1950.Regt no.E27420 (Mum) a not –for-profit Organization Working in low income communities to provide the children and youth Football and education program to enable them to stay in school and have a positive learning experience.

Our organization, OSCAR, has been working with 480 children and youths for the development of their social & educational life through the medium of football for the past 4 years. We make these children aware of their responsibilities towards their families and society. Education is the focus of our work for children who have dropped out from school as well as those currently attending school. We motivate them to study hard and focus on their careers and football is used as a medium for developing their mindset and applying the same discipline to their lives.

We believe that to enable the overall development of children, education paired with sports is beneficial. We believe that the sports and education both play an important role in the holistic development of a child.

Problem

What my community needs is support for children and youth; both to stop children dropping out of school and to keep those who attend in school.

Solution

Oscar uses football as a medium to bring children and sports together. After establishing a solid relationship with the children OSCAR emphasises the importance of education and facilitates the overall development of the children. Our program essentially, links football and education and uses it as a medium to impart life-coping skills to children. For example, while playing football, one learns to battle many pressures such as, pressure from the opponents, time related pressures, team management pressures etc. Similarly in life, one has to tackle pressures like peer pressure, family responsibilities etc. Through football, the children and youth learn to tackle pressure of the game, and use their learning to tackle pressures in their daily lives as well.

Exemple

OSCAR trains young people to become young leaders so they can tackle their community issues through football. For example, Anil Chawan was found by OSCAR at the age of 15, having never been to school. At the time he couldn't read or write and he had a heavy gambling habit. Now aged 20, Anil is a literate, numerate, confident Young Leader in charge of equipment for the OSCAR program.
