Problem

Brazil: A country of countless opportunities, natural resources, cultural diversity and continental proportions… If on one hand ... the nation finds itself in steadfast development and is now recognized as one of the largest economies in the world. On the other hand, there is a great challenge to be overcome health issues such as non-communicable diseases that affect millions of Brazilians.72% of the deaths in Brazil are attributed to these diseases. Cardiovascular diseases such as stroke and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) are the main cause of these deaths.More than 27% of hospitalizations of people aged 60 years or over are caused by cardiovascular diseases which have a significant impact on the public health system.

SAVING LIVES THROUGH EDUCATION… …THE PROJECT! At any time teams of highly trained professionals will be able to identify and refer patients to better health care assistance, according to their needs, which makes all difference. At the same time the population has been made aware to quickly recognize stroke and AMI symptoms and also has been oriented on how to act on these situations. Health professionals have been involved in a series of training events, forums and updated trainings with focus on these diseases and its treatment. Health professionals also have an exclusive online trainning, enabling their development through the websites E-CARDIO and e E-AVC. Some of the trainings are specially customized to meet the specific needs. Thousands have been benefited from this project. This initiative aims to cover the entire country. Communities have been mobilised through actions like theatre and media, designed to bring awareness about the signs and symptoms of these diseases. Saving lives through education also brings improvements to the health service infrastructure providing telemedicine to help patients with stroke and AMI. Hospitals have a 24-hours access to neurological care for stroke patients through telemedicine. For AMI patients, there are electrocardiographic reports made by cardiologists at any time. With well-trained professionals and people-oriented to close this cycle, the project "Saving lives through education” allows a pioneering strategy to improve the National Health System.
