Stop Bullying with Social Education Skills Program
A community based approach for students, school staff, parents and communities desiring reduced incidence of bullying as well as improved social education skills and behavioural performance for students, with emphasis on social responsibility, mutual respect and improved friendship skills. (A SOLUTION based series of workshops). Delivered on site in schools and communities across North America
The program is very easy to implement and takes about 5 minutes each day in the classroom to continue with. Benefits include: reduced incidence of bullying and violence, improved communication and friendship skills, improved classroom behaviour skills, character education, improved academic outcomes. By partnering with community members and school staff and delivering the project on site we are able to share the information with many individuals in the community, this method allows the program to be easily
applied and accepted.
Our program meets the criteria for funding under INAC’s Parental Involvement and School Improvement Initiatives. Many communities have partnered School funding with Brighter Futures support in order to get the program funded and running in the community. Please feel free to contact either Susan or myself for more information or to discuss further.
The program includes:
For Teachers, Administration and all School Staff 1 day professional development for all school staff without students. An empowered classroom-learning environment and effective classroom management is something we all strive for as educators. How to Create a Bully Free Classroom & School and How to Teach Social Education Skills are the topics covered in this session. These “how to “ sessions provide participants with answers and an action plan for dealing with bullying and other negative school and classroom behaviors. Each participant receives an information package and curriculum materials (40 pages) as well as a school wide implementation plan for a Social Education Skills program that can run year after year.
For Students interactive sessions, delivered in classrooms (with teacher present beginning with the youngest students). Students learn about non-violent Bully Stopping Plans and Social Education Skills that improve their friendship, classroom and school behavior.
For Parents, Front Line Workers and all community members 1 evening, Susan will hold a session for parents, front line workers, social workers, police etc. ”Bullying” awareness, intervention and prevention should also be supported at home and in the community by Family Members and Others. These positive and informal sessions are open to all Parents, Social workers, Foster parents, Counselors, Healthcare Workers, coaches and community members etc. All participants will learn: nonviolent bully stopping plans, how to report and deal effectively with bullying situations and problems as well as many other “how to’s” useful for their children, families or clients they work with.
For radio listeners A radio discussion/interview with Susan and the local radio station (if applicable) so those who are unable to come out to attend can still participate by getting the information and ask their questions etc. through the radio call in show.

Problem
The graduation rate in First Nation Communities in Canada is very low, suicide is high and unemployment is rampant, these are complicated issues to solve. In addition education in First Nation communities is underfunded, other issues including school staff turn over, many basic needs not being met contribute also to the problems. Many of Canada's First Nation communities currently exist in third world like conditions, many people in the community are busy trying to deal with all of these issues at the same time as dealing with many social issues, infrastructure, employment, escalating costs due to remoteness of the community etc. Children in schools everywhere need social education skills training and practice, children in remote communities especially can benefit from this program, which can easily be incorporated into childrens everyday lives and school curriculum, these skills are critical for success in school, in the playground, in working lives, in personal and professional relationships, these skills help people be more successful in whatever they wish to do
Solution
We design workshops, materials and services, we travel to and deliver services and materials on site in First Nation and Inuit communities across North America. Our products and services are intended to enrich and improve lives and have a positive social impact. We have had call backs and have seen the difference this can make in childrens lives, better friendships, relationships, communication, more success at school, less incidence of fighting and bullying. Our onsite delivery model is very efficient as we will deliver on site, allowing us to reach many more people in the community with information for greater program success, with efficient pricing, resulting in a larger social impact.
