I had the pleasure of hearing about CofA through Prof Apt, one of the founders. For my master's dissertation I wrote on the barriers to girls' education in Ghana and desired to work with an institution that was helping girls to access education. CofA is an innovative programme that gives girls hope for their future.  Through volunteering with CofA I have seen a marked transformation in the girls who attend the programme. Within a few weeks they are more confident and have a gleam in their eyes. You sense that they are more hopeful , education gives them hope.

The opportunity to be a role model to someone in need was an incentive for me to join the CofA program and especially because they would be female(s). During the semester, I heard so much about the program, seen pictures, visited the website and I was convinced that my participation in this summer’s CofA program would be an experience of a lifetime. I enjoy passing on what I know to others. Being female, I can identify with the plight of these girls and I believe that my presence and mentoring will go a long way to impact them positively and help them realize their full potential. I also believe that as black females, we should always have confidence in ourselves and in our abilities and one way we can achieve this is to have self-esteem inculcated in us at a young age. Thank you CofA for this opportunity to serve.
