Somolu, your idea sounds like what Schoolnet Uganda is doing. Could you get in touch with Mr. Kakinda Daniel, the Executive Director to see openings for partnership and support. Their website is: http://schoolnetuganda.sc.ug
Dear Mr. Omoding,
Thank you for you comment. I have heard of SchoolNet and will certainly explore ways in which we can collaborate.
The W.TEC Girls Technology Camp prioritises ICT education for girls and young women, because women make-up a smaller number of users, developers and managers of technology. This is as a result of a variety of factors, of which economic (fewer reasons leads many families to chose education of male children over women) and social (fewer visible women in ICT, role models, discouragement of women to take-up technology subjects and careers) are still a big component.
There are many cultural factors that will take a long time to change and this work cannot be done by one organisation. However, the W.TEC Camp seeks to provide a much-needed forum for young women to be introduced to computers, the internet, and other ICTs. This camp also provides a space for much-needed female-to-female mentoring.

Hi oreoluwa
Your idea is very interesting and I'm sure those girls will use what they are learning to shape their future.
Thank you for your comment, Linekela. Last year's camp was a pilot and we learnt a lot form in terms of developing more efficient interventions for girls.
You can find out more about last year's camp from our website, www.w-teconline.org and Facebook group, http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=16896405765.
We will have an article with findings based on the camp available soon.

Dear Somolu thanks for coming up with such an idea to help especially the girls. Many educators especially in Africa have not yet seen the value in the girl child. They still think that a girl is there to grow and get married. Sorry to hem. Try to solist for funds and hold that camp atleast every term of your carriculum because once a year could be very little sicnce most of these girls have very limited access to computers. I teach in a girls school myself and i wish to get in touch with other girl educators in Africa. Man keep that high and dont think about giving up. Good luck.
Welldone Ore for this great work!
In this era where knowledge is power, it is imperative that the female gender in Africa are empowered to add their inputs towards the Africa of our dream.
I particularly like the concept of training the young girls in IT which shall position them for exploits in whatever field they choose to explore.
Again, welldone Ore.
We've talked about the Digital Divide and many others, but in my work with ICTs and Youth, one divide that needs a lot of attention is the gender divide - a lot of young women are disconnected from ICT opportunities. Fortunately, WTEC's programs come with the much-needed solution. Beyond equipping young women, WTEC's work also creates what I believe will be the foundation for positive peer pressure among young Nigerians (when both genders can compete favourably).
