idActFN
IdActFN is a community education project inspired by current IdAct programs and is specifically adapted to young First Nations adults. The program offers tools that promote enhanced thinking, comprehension and active participation in today’s society. It cultivates identity reinforcement, youth mobilization, and employability through skill development and sustainable development with a social and united approach.
Inspired by IdAct…
IdAct is comprised of more than 650 marginalized youths, commendations such as the Fellowship of Ashoka, 300 workshop hours, a success rate of over 80%, some record breaking attendance rates and partnerships with community organizations, public and private fundraisers, institutions and university members, … in a prison environment with street kids and those on the verge of socio-professional reintegration.
Since 2005, Exeko has developed and established a range of socio-educational programs that support social inclusion and acceptance of the most marginalized individuals as a result of its insightful tools, the analysis of society and concerted efforts.
Through adapted workshops and a unique strategic approach, idAct offers tools that provide access to a better understanding of today’s society, and hence favors a stronger accord between today’s young adults and society. Tailored philosophy; political thinking; economic and community awareness; case studies; implementation of joint projects; IdAct is a pathway that leads to expanded horizons. It operates at the source of isolation: The feeling of being misunderstood which leads to reactions instead of thoughtful actions. It’s literally knowledge that is brought back to the streets and takes on its role of catalyst.
idAct does not attempt to mold young adults into models of society, rather it makes them aware that they are already a part of it. From that realization, community participation becomes possible…
Exclusion, injustice, prejudice, poverty are all part of today’s reality - a systemic dysfunction that fosters a lack of understanding instead of empowering development. Let’s ask ourselves: What if our society was unified? What if we would dare to include everyone? And what if we could utilize everyone’s strengths to build tomorrow’s society?
Adapted to the First Nations …
Because of the major stakes with which the FN are now faced in terms of their current alarming conditions…
Because native peoples and non-natives alike have everything to gain from future partnership…
Because FN have societal values, beliefs and ways that differ from civil Canadian society’s and which should be valued to help reinforce their identity and establish them as strong assets in the construction of a better future.
It is essential to review our educational practices and adapt them to the specific needs of the FN.
idAct undertakes the daring task of reviewing its philosophy, its methods and its content in order to become a customized program for natives: IdAct FN!
It tackles personal and societal issues, and combines all available assets towards the reinforcement of an economy inspired by First Nations’ values: Social, Unified Economy.
Exeko is drawing from its pre-existing programs in the native community and is bringing together the players and resources needed to create this «tailored» project. Many people have already been approached and demonstrated a strong interest. How about you?
idAct FN has two offshoot projects also in the works:
idAct Mobile, that goes out to meet natives living in homeless situations throughout our cities.
idAct Mixité, that brings together two social groups who are evolving parallel to each other but who are either in state of conflict or mutual ignorance. The idea is to encourage participants to acknowledge their misconceptions, to engage in mutual exchanges and to break their prejudices.

idActFN simultaneously develops social well being, economic and personal growth of young native adults because it:
Encourages understanding of existing challenges and social dynamics while considering all points of view and favoring independent thinking
Recognizes the value of cultural and traditional merits in the emergence of a society that reflects modern social and economic needs
Develops essential skills that lead to employability and social and collective entrepreneurship
Mobilizes youth and fosters collaboration and community service
Develops positive social behaviors and breaks exclusionary patterns of isolation at their root
Heightens Canadian society’s awareness of the importance of dialogue between nations.
IdActFN works to leverage the essence of social inclusion.
Vos futurs objectifs : Identifiez les objectifs que vous espérez avec votre idée ou projet atteindre d'ici l'année prochaine
Develop, test and implement a customized training program adapted to meet the needs of Canada’s First Nations population.
Dans 5 ans, quelle différence aura apporté votre idée ou projet ?
In 5 years, we hope that the transmission of tools (life skills) will be sufficient for young native adults to recognize and integrate their importance and power. We hope that young natives will be able to access well defined, beneficial tools that will lead to the natural emergence of projects and self-sufficient collective businesses, reflecting their own social and developmental concerns.

Education centers, foundations, non-profit organizations and individuals (consultants and donors) and non-Aboriginal already follow the adventure. Their role is crucial in advancing the project, this large representability, we can broaden our vision, understand the needs and priorities and not forget the main objective of the project. Each is also ambassador of the project.
To name a few, include the support of the McConnell Foundation, Ashoka and the Committee on Health and Social Services of First Nations.

To be in touch with the needs and realities of daily life of the FN and thereby keep sight of our true direction, this project will need:
• the collaboration of the various key social and political players in the FN community, without delay.
• Committed financial and developmental partners who share our philosophy.
• Ambassadors supporting the creation of our network.
We foresee presenting the program to a more widespread base within the FN communities as well as presenting to communities outside the FN.
Décrivez le type de soutien que vous recevez (autre que financier) ou dont vous auriez besoin pour votre idée ou projet (par ex., dons, espace, équipements, bénévoles)
In addition to our urgent financing requirements, we’re in need of other diverse resources associated with the different stages of development.
We are searching for resources to:
- Hire a Project Manager from within the First Nations Community.
- Establish regional and provincial joint committee meetings
- Develop and create an educational platform 2.0, solving the problems associated with remote areas.
- Support a pilot project with a test group of participants for the research-action phase.
- Establish new markers for evaluating impact and perform initial assessment of the pilot-group.
- Develop a learning guide (within already existing resources)
